Christian Dior Is Now Comic Couture

Dior has been receiving some major, not to mention creative, marketing assistance recently. Trailing behind last month's release of director Frédéric Tcheng's behind the scenes look at Raf Simons' debut collection for the house in the documentary Dior and I, French graphic novelist Annie Goetzinger released Girl in Dior earlier this month, a graphic novel telling the story of fashion journalist Clara whose journey starts once she is recruited by Christian Dior himself to model for the label, according to The Cut. A couture comic, aka, a fashionista's literary dream come true.

Goetzinger tells The Cut, "There were already a lot of books and movies on Chanel. Same with Saint Laurent. But at the time I started working on this book, there was really nothing on Christian Dior." And what better way than to portray the designer as a caricature? Genius.

Not only will this graphic novel be a unique addition to Dior’s marketing platform, but it could also set a new trend for other fashion industry icons as well. When I think Dior, I think expensive, high-end, and, for those of us post-grads paying off student loans for the next twenty years (I see you), well, out of our reach, to put it mildly. But, when I think of comics I think of entertainment and a connection between those telling the story and those who read it.
