Out of all the vampires on The Vampire Diaries , Damon Salvatore has always been my favorite. Not just because he's extremely attractive (though that certainly doesn't hurt matters), but also because of how much I've enjoyed watching him revel in his vampire-ness. He just wears the supernatural, bloodthirsty shroud so well, ya know? Plus, there's the whole compelling thing with those Smolderhalder eyes. (Not that this guy needs vampire abilities to get others to do his bidding, of course.) Basically, what I'm trying to say here is that I've always loved Damon for exactly who he is ever since he first set foot in Mystic Falls. Which is partially what makes this next question a bit of a dilemma. Will The Vampire Diaries make Damon human again and, if so, could it completely ruin the character we've come to love?
As of now, it seems the end of Season 6 is gearing up for Elena to take the cure and live out the rest of her days as a human. However, it isn't entirely out of the question that Damon may be heading toward a normal human-life storyline as well. Given everything we've learned about Lily's Heretic family, I'd say another trip to the 1903 prison world will be in order for the gang. Couldn't Damon find a way to grab the cure in that world as well — similar to what Bonnie did in 1994 — so that he and Elena could become human together? Part of me doubts things would work out quite that smoothly, especially since Damon will still be around after Elena's big departure.
However, knowing TVD as well as we do, anything is possible if the writers put their minds to it, making Damon's mortal transformation not entirely out of the question, whether Elena is apart of that story arc or not. So with that in mind, I thought it would be fun to try and imagine what exactly it would be like if Human Damon graced us with his modern day presence.
He'd Have To Seriously Cut Back On The Drinking
I know that it's kind of become his thing or whatever, but really, that much bourdon intake would surely kill him in his mortal body. And we just can't have that.
His Threats Would Carry A Lot Less Weight
Though I'm sure Damon would be able to hold onto some of that bad boy appeal, he'd have a hard time backing up those threats with more than just words. After all, you take vamp speed and neck snapping out of the equation and the best options at his disposal would be to kill his enemies with sarcasm, which doesn't exactly have the same effect.
He'd Have To Learn Some Manners
Sorry, dude, but that broody bad behavior isn't going to fly if you no longer have supernatural powers to back you up. Forget compelling people to get what you want. Now it's all about turning on that charming and knowing how to smooth talk your way up that ladder of success. In other words, welcome to the joys of social networking!
There'd Have To Be Some Serious Workout Scenes
If he has any hope of maintaining that fantastic physique, that means Human Damon would be in need of hitting the gym at least a few times every week, especially if he plans on continuing to make his famous 1994 vampire pancakes. They may be delicious, but will most definitely take its toll on a human body. But hey, if that means I have to watch Damon do a few extra shirtless push-ups, then so be it.
He'd Start To Age
A depressing thought for sure, but we all know he'd make for a perfect silver fox in his later years. Clooney, eat your heart out.
He'd Still Continue To Compel Us
He may no longer possess magical capabilities, but that doesn't mean he won't still find a way to captivate us each and every week, regardless of his supernatural standing.
So yeah, Human Damon wouldn't be a complete disaster. But I'd be lying if I didn't admit that it'd make for a much less exciting storyline for our beloved Salvatore brother. After all, Damon's at his best when he's at his worst.
