What Alan Rickman Thinks Of Those Impressions

by Martha Sorren

No matter how famous his imitators are, Alan Rickman is not impressed by his impressions. With his deep voice and distinct slow way of talking, Rickman is a favorite for celebrity impressionists — particularly two famous British actors. Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch have both tackled Alan Rickman on numerous occasions. Rickman knows this, but he hasn't taken the time to watch.

In an interview with Radio Times, Rickman was asked about his famous impersonators and whether he'd seen them. "No," he answered simply. "If I hear my own voice, I don't recognize it. So, I'm therefore not going to recognize them doing it." It's not the first time he's thrown shade at Cumberbatch and Hiddleston's interpretation of his voice.

In 2013 he told MTV that he was aware of the actors' attempts to mimic him. "I know where they came from, so I know to where they could be sent," he jokingly threatened. "Get it accurate, that's all I'd say."

But if he hasn't watched them, Rickman probably doesn't know how great the impressions are. And Hiddleston and Cumberbatch aren't the only ones who have Rickman's voice down pat. Here are eight of the best Alan Rickman impressions for your listening pleasure.

Steve Coogan

The actor gave this T4 host a quick lesson in how to do Rickman's voice properly. It's all about the depth.

John Sessions

The comedian is well-known for his spot-on Rickman impression.

Family Guy

Alan Rickman is probably the only person who really does still have an answering machine.

Jimmy Fallon & Benedict Cumberbatch

Is there anything better than an Alan Rickman-off starring Fallon and Cumberbatch? I don't think so. Skip to 1:00 to watch them in action.

Benedict Cumberbatch Again

I can listen to this man impersonate Rickman all day long.

Tom Hiddleston

With his black Loki hair, he looks a lot like Snape here!

Tom Hiddleston Again

Nailed it.

Both Cumberbatch & Hiddleston

Sorry Rickman, but I think they did a great job.
