Thakoon Looks To London For Kohl's Collabo Inspo

by Amy Sciarretto

Fast fashion and high-end designers making limited edition pitstops at mass market retailers isn't going away, you guys! This weekend, the Lily Pulitzer x Target launch crashed the retailer's website, much like what happened when the Missoni x Target launch broke the Internet. Now comes news that designer Thakoon is collaborating with Kohl's DesigNation program. He is the seventh designer to participate in this program and he looked to London for inspo.

Previous DesigNation collabos featured Catherine Malandrino, Elie Tahari, Peter Som, Derek Lam, and Narciso Rodriguez, so Thakoon is entering rarified air.

Thakoon, born Thakoon Panichgul in Thailand and raised in Omaha, which isn't exactly a fashion hotbed, is a former fashion editor known for his coveted red carpet designs, more of which you'll see momentarily. The brand also recently enjoyed its 10th birthday!

Kohl's Nancy Feldman noted to WWD that "DesigNation is built to inspire our customers with designs shaped by some of the world's most popular destinations, and Thakoon Panichgul is the perfect person to bring London to life as he is known for showcasing distinct global influences through his collections."

Thakoon himself told WWD that he likes the fact that Kohl's makes fashion accessible to all women, saying "The DesigNation collection allows me to explore London, a city I love so much, in depth, and to bring my imprint and take on its captivating culture to women everywhere."

Here's everything we know about the collection.

It will be limited edition and available this fall.

2. London Calling

The DesigNation collections are inspired by different cities or locations. Here, prints and patterns will be influenced by London's culture and history, as told from Thakoon's perspective. Yes, that's a wide open source of inspo, but I cannot wait to see how Thakoon distills it. There are so many options and sources to pull from, including the Union Jack, the iconic skyline, and the city's many fashion plates, from Kate Moss to Kate Middleton!

3. Affordable Luxury

The pieces will fall under the $200 price tag. Expect sweaters, dresses, knit tops, and more.

And if you are not super familiar with Thakoon, here are some of his more recent memorable frocks.

Anna Kendrick wore this salmon pink gown with a keyhole bodice to the Oscars and it just floated around her.

Rose Byrne rocked this black floral Thakoon cut with a deep V and sheer sleeves.

Maggie Gyllenhaal wore white Thakoon at the SAGs in January and showed off some of the sexiest sideboob of the awards season, for sure.

So you can see that Thakoon's aesthetic is clingy and cleavage-friendly, but it's all in the details! That point of view should assert itself in his Kohl's range.
