Chris Brown's Baby Subject Of Legal Battle
As you may have heard, Chris Brown has shared the first indirect confirmation that he is, indeed, a father. Brown posted a couple snapshots of his daughter, Royalty, on Instagram. One shows the two bonding over matching hoodies with the caption, "God has blessed me with my twin. #ROYALTY." As controversial as Chris Brown has been in the past, it's hard to deny that the photos are sweet, and hopefully a step in the right direction for the singer. But after seeing the pictures, some may be wondering where Chris Brown' relationship with his daughter currently stands from a legal perspective.
TMZ claims Brown has asked the woman said to be Royalty's mother, Houston-born Nia Guzman, to relocate to Los Angeles so that he can spend more time with the child. Bustle has reached out to Brown's rep for comment, but has not yet heard back. (For the record, there is some discrepancy over her Nia's last name, the New York Daily News refers to the model as Nia Amey.)
While it's unclear what custody rights Brown has over Royalty, there are reports that all has not been resolved in terms of child support. According to the New York Daily News, Brown is taking Royalty's mother to family court in an attempt to pay less money than he originally agreed upon.
According to TMZ, Brown is currently paying substantially more support than he would legally be required to if the payment had been ordered by a judge. The gossip website claims that the singer agreed to the amount and in return, Guzman allegedly agreed to not spread the news of his secret baby. Brown is said to believe that Guzman has been leaking stories and speaking about their relationship, hence his decision to take Guzman to court. And on top of all that, Guzman's current boyfriend reportedly wants to stand in as a father figure.
In any case, it is a good sign for Brown that he had the opportunity to visit his child, however brief their visit may have been (not long after the baby posts, he posted photos of himself in the studio). Hopefully, no matter how things play out between Brown and Guzman, they keep their child's needs above all else.
