Are you looking for answers about what's in store for superhero fans in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice ? Then maybe don't look at the newly released Batman v. Superman teaser trailer. Oh, who am I kidding? Of course you want to look at it. Director Zack Snyder has shrouded this meeting of two DC titans in so much secrecy that you would be forgiven for thinking it was a highly classified CIA document. The teaser offers up a full 21 seconds of costume porn. There's not a single ounce of actual film footage in sight — and, even more depressing, no Wonder Woman or Aquaman to be seen.
A lack of evidence has never stopped me from speculating before though and it certainly will not stop me now. Here are the things we do know: Ben Affleck is stepping into the Batsuit, Henry Cavill will brood once more as Superman, Khal Drogo — I mean Jason Momoa — will steam up the screen as Aquaman, and Gal Gadot will finally put Wonder Woman on the big screen. Snyder is at the helm, which means the film will be very dark — and I mean visually, not just tonally. Finally, the official trailer will be released Monday, April 20 (yes!). Now let's see what clues we can gather from the teaser:
The suits are undeniably cool. They also appear to be in storage in an area that is vaguely reminiscent of the Justice League Satellite, the headquarters for Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the Justice League gang. This could point to a future Justice League movie, something DC is undeniably hopeful will happen. Otherwise, Wonder Woman and Aquaman would not have been invited to the party.
Let's take a closer look at the suits themselves. Superman's suit has not changed since we last saw his red cape fly in Man of Steel back in 2013. Check it out for yourself below.
See? Still shiny, still just a bit too gritty for the all-American Superman. All that's missing is Cavill to fill it out properly. Then we have Batman's suit which looks like it has seen better days. This marks a subtle, but significant design change for the Dark Knight. When Christian Bale was in the role, Batman's suit never appeared so tattered. Maybe it's just the lighting that is giving the suit its ragged appearance, but it suggests an older, even more dour Batman to come.
Now, the more pressing question? Is there any significance to the suits being together, besides creating a striking image for the teaser? I think there could be. While the title suggests Batman and Superman will be battling each other, the superheroes are notorious for their love/hate relationship. Maybe their suits are not in the Justice League HQ, but in Lex Luthor's lair? Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor could be the common enemy these two heroes need to both pit them against each other and unite them. Let's face it, if DC ever wants to do the Justice League, well, justice, then they have to get the band together somehow.
Like I said, however, all we really know until Monday is that the suits look awesome.
