Nail Mindy Lahiri's Signature Style in +Sizes
One of the most stylish TV characters of recent times — or maybe even ever — is indisputably The Mindy Project 's Mindy Lahiri. While the storyline on the romantic comedy has fizzled over the past season, Mindy's extremely trendy style and penchant for the brightest colors and the boldest prints has not. In fact, it's only gotten stronger. With motherhood fast approaching for the character, she hasn't slowed down in her professional life or toned down her ensembles. It's just one of the many reasons we love her so much and that keeps us tuning in week after week.
Mindy's mixed prints and carefully clashing colors can be a lot of look for anyone and her plus-size look is for the experimental babe who is always interested in being the center of attention and trying new things. While her color palette falls on the wild side, the pieces that she tends to wear are always incredibly cleanly cut and well-tailored to keep her looking sharp, fashionable, sexy, and professional. Seriously, the line between "hot mess" and "hot babe" is usually defined by good tailoring. Mindy costume designer Salvador Perez says that the fit of a garment is non-negotiable and "anyone can look polished and put-together if they put the effort into fit."
When trying to emulate Lahiri's style, picking fitted pieces is important; but staying away from stuffy and boring is even more so. I'm convinced that if Lahiri was plus-size, she'd shop almost exclusively at Eloquii, the brand that has new stock constantly arriving and isn't afraid of prints and brights.
The key to M-style is, however, layering! Mindy is seen wearing a fun collared shirt under a sheath dress or a sweater in probably half the episodes this season. The more you have on, the more colors, patterns, and bling you can fit into a single outfit. When it comes to jewelry, more is more and bold is better. The Mindy Project had a collection with Bauble Bar and it makes all the sense in the world: Statement necklaces are a Mindy staple. Don't be held back by what you think you should wear: Wear what's fun and makes you happy.
