I'll confess that I've never been a huge Slurpee fan. Even so, though, I'm highly considering getting one this weekend — because it's Bring Your Own Cup Day at 7-Eleven this Saturday, April 11. What does that mean? It means that you can bring any drink receptacle of your choice to your local 7-Eleven tomorrow, and no matter what it is, they will fill it to the brim with Slurpee. This is not a drill.
According to Foodbeast, the standard 22-ounce Slurpee costs $1.49 plus tax — which is exactly what you'll be charged on #BYOCupDay, regardless as to how large your cup is (and I'm better many will fall under the heading “monstrously large”). There's only one catch: Whatever you bring has to fit within a 10-inch cutout that will be located near the Slurpee machine. Foodbeast likens it to the “You must be this tall to ride” signs that accompany a lot of roller coasters; personally I think it's a little closer to the “will your bag fit?” things used to determine whether or not your carry-on bag will fit in the overhead compartment of an airplane, but maybe that's just me.
This isn't the first time 7-Eleven has treated the world to this promotion; 7-Eleven locations in Australia had a Bring Your Own Cup Day back in September of 2014, and as BuzzFeed demonstrated at the time, plenty of people definitely made the most of it. Some of the more creative receptacles used included a slow cooker:
A water bubbler container:
And a coffee pot, because Slurpees deserve to feel refined, too:
Classy.
USA Today reports that there are a few more rules in addition to the 10-inch diameter one — so, y'know... just bear these things in mind:
- No trash cans (they're too big).
- No boots or shoes (they're too unsanitary).
- No baseball caps or other hats (too porous, and therefore a disaster waiting to happen).
But between the hours of 11 AM and 7 PM, feel free to bring any clean, water-tight vessel that fit the parameters previously laid out to your favorite 7-Eleven, and voila! Any size Slurpee for a mere dollar and a half. Have fun, kids!
