Will The Rock Be In 'Fast & Furious 8'?

Furious 7 just came out a second ago, but fans are already speculating about what will happen in the next installment of the franchise. And it's not surprising, especially since Vin Diesel has said that he thinks of Furious 7 as the first installment in the next trilogy of the franchise, and during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live made it sound as though an eighth movie will be happening. One thing that fans might be wondering hearing this, is whether Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be in Fast & Furious 8 and continue to play a key role in the next part of the series.

Johnson has not been confirmed to be part of the team just yet, which is somewhat understandable considering the movie itself was just confirmed. Luckily, Johnson has already taken some time to weigh in on whether he would want to appear in the next film, and it seems like he is pretty diplomatic about it either way. He said in an interview with Movie Fone, "I'm open to it." He added, "For me, personally, because I have the fortune of coming in to an already established franchise, it all depends on creative and how many layers we can add." But he has made it abundantly clear how much he enjoys playing the character, and based on audience response to him, it sounds like fans agree.

In the same Movie Fone interview, Johnson said that he has more fun playing Luke Hobbs than any character he has ever played because of the absurdity of the things that he can say and get away with. He also talked the benefits of being part of a franchise of this nature and what makes it so special to him. "This one is very unique, it's very special and there's the thread of family, theres all the other elements too that come together that make it interesting," he said about the overall arc of the Fast series. "There's amazing cars, there's beautiful girls, there's guns, there's cheesy lines, said by yours truly."

But even if Johnson doesn't grace us with his presence in the next part of the series, there is always the possibility of an appearance in a spinoff film. He has in the past expressed interest in appearing in a spinoff movie about his character. Plans for that never completely materialized, seeing as he wanted to originally do the spinoff movie in between movies six and seven, but since it was never completely canned, that potential role could also be considered up in the air.
