8 Amazing Jasmine Thompson Covers

by Daniela Cabrera

As I have shared before, I am an avid followers of up-and-coming YouTube singers, and I like to think that I have a knack for picking out some pretty good undiscovered talent. I also fancy myself quite the judge during my weekly viewing sessions of American Idol and X Factor, so I obviously (think I) know what I'm talking about. Tori Kelly, who made a name for herself by posting covers on YouTube, is now on the verge of blowing up after releasing a catchy single and working on a debut album with some of musics biggest producers. And a few weeks ago, a friend of mine, knowing my affinity for binge-watching YouTube singers, sent me a video of Jasmine Thompson and I was blown away. Not only is she just 14 years old, but her cover videos easily get millions of views EACH.

So who is Jasmine Thompson? The singer hails from Central London. She's been posting videos since she was only 12 years old and has quickly gained fans due to her ethereal voice. For such a young artist, she's got incredible control, tone, and a beautiful timbre that I believe can lead her to have a very successful career beyond her self-posted videos.

Currently, Thompson is jetting around Europe promoting a new collaboration she has with producer Felix Jaehn on the track "Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)." She also just finished filming her first music video for the song, which will fit perfectly on summer soundtracks for 2015.

While she gears up some more original music, I made a list of some of Jasmine Thompson's best covers that you MUST listen to right away.

"Let Her Go" By Passenger

At over 19 MILLION views, this is easily her most viewed cover. The song appeared on a January episode of Law & Order: SVU, which surely sent many people scrambled to find out who this girl was.

"Take Me To Chuch" By Hozier

I dare to find someone who doesn't absolutely love this song. Thompson adds a sweet touch to the dark ballad.

"Chandelier" By Sia

This song is known for Sia's powerhouse chorus, but this version has a different kind of vulnerability to the lyrics.

"Halo" By Beyoncé

Thompson quite literally has the voice of an angel, so singing "Halo" only makes sense.

"Rather Be" By Clean Bandit

This is definitely one of my favorite re-workings by Thompson. I have to remind myself that she was only 13 when she recorded this, so she will only get better!

"Wrecking Ball" By Miley Cyrus

This song is one of my guiltiest pleasures and Thompson is definitely feeling it.

"La La La" By Naughty Boy Feat. Sam Smith

This cover shows more of her soulful, R&B vibe which she handles beautifully, as expected.

"Say Something" By A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera

All of the feels, to be completely honest.
