Ellen Reconnects With Fashion After Coming Out

One of the greatest things about fashion, is that it lets each and every one of us express our individuality in the most creative way. The clothes we wear (and the ways we wear them) are an outward representation of who we are, which is something to truly be cherished. Our freedom of creative expression through fashion is something that undoubtedly belongs to us, and it's a pretty special thing. In an interview for Vogue's April issue, Ellen Page says coming out helped her personal style, admitting to having previously felt the pressure of society's gender-based fashion standards.

The Juno actress tells Vogue (as reported by MTV.com) “I used to feel this constant pressure to be more feminine; a quiet or sometimes not-so-quiet demand — You need to wear a dress or people will think you’re gay.’” she says “Now I feel a sense of freedom in dressing, and I’m enjoying it so much. I love wearing a Saint Laurent suit to an event. I mean, what a gift." A gift it is indeed. It seems so silly that in this day and age women are still being made to feel that they have no control over something as personal to them as what they wear.

Who says suits are only for boys? Menswear has emerged as a full-on trend for women in recent years. This amazing ensemble, pictured below, is living proof that fashion need not be based on gender, sexual orientation, or anything but personal taste. If you like it, wear it, flaunt it — it should be that simple. That's my mantra, at least. I can't wait to see how Ellen's new style translates, and judging by her past fashion choices, it will be amazing.
