Okay... that was interesting. After keeping Lance Hunter hostage for an entire episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Mack revealed that he and Bobbi are working for "the real S.H.I.E.L.D." — what is that supposed to mean? My previous theory was that Mack and Bobbi were working for the C.I.A., but this was a lot more twisted. I suppose, after Hydra broke up the spy organization by revealing themselves, it isn't too surprising that they've morphed into several factions. I've always been suspicious of the fact that Phil Coulson is out and about in public when the Avengers aren't even allowed to know that he's alive.
Have Coulson and his team been duped this whole time? That would be a bummer. Unfortunately, I wouldn't put it past S.H.I.E.L.D. to keep such an elaborate secret. They've done it before. As Iron Man said in the first Avengers movie, their secrets have secrets. The promo for next week's episode showed Edward James Olmos, who is guest starring as "Robert Gonzales," whose name doesn't ring any bells in the Marvel Universe. How very mysterious. We also saw Ward. Remember that guy?
So, who is behind the "real" S.H.I.E.L.D.? Are they working for Captain America? Is Chris Evans going to be on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. now? Pretty please with patriotism on top? I do really need to know where Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanov, and Clint Barton (Hawkeye) ended up after the Hydra shakedown. Is "the real S.H.I.E.L.D." where they've been punching their cards?
We know that Maria Hill ended up working at Stark Technologies. Are she and Tony Stark behind this real S.H.I.E.L.D.? We also know that Nick Fury is still working closely with Coulson. Perhaps, in this new divided world, he is Divergent. Or he's just retired. There is also the possibility that I'm giving Mack and Bobbi too much credit and their S.H.I.E.L.D. is just pretentious.
Who knew that such a simple twist could be the most interesting? I can't wait to see where this takes us next!
