Barry Finally Tells Iris The Truth On 'The Flash'

by Emma Lord

This might just be the most heart-wrenching 'ship that was ever 'shipped, now that Barry Allen kissed Iris West on The Flash and revealed his identity to her, only to travel back in time directly after it happened. For a long time, the two of them have been dancing around the idea of a relationship, but Iris has been dating Eddie Thawne and Barry has been going out with Linda Park, so it seemed like it would be totally impossible for the two of them to be together any time soon. That, however, didn't stop Iris from revealing her feelings to Barry, which seemed just a little too good to be true. And now that we're dealing with all this time travel business, unfortunately, that gut feeling might just turn out to be right.

It's unclear exactly what direction the show is going to take this new time travel plot twist, because even the characters themselves seemed unable to determine the plasticity of time. If Barry creates an alternate reality, then I have a feeling what he does is going to cancel out whatever inspired Iris to tell him the truth about her feelings in the first place, and who even knows how long until the show finally lets her in on Barry's secret again? Still, it was pretty satisfying, even if it was just for a few moments, to see them being totally honest with each other for once. I feel like their relationship, even just their friendship, would function on a much healthier level if she were in on his secret.

One thing's for sure: all the notions we had that Iris was harboring secret feelings for Barry were 100 percent spot-on, because not only did she blatantly confess them, but that kiss had some major chemistry. Now we just have to sit back and wait to see if the show is going to let them become a "thing," or if after Barry tampers with the past he and Iris just end up going back to their awkward sexual tension and secrets until we're all banging our heads against our couch cushions again.
