Want to have better sex? Apparently, one tip most sex advice magazines are leaving out is a very simple one — get more sleep. According to a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, a full night's sleep leads to a higher level of sexual desire the next morning for women: That is, women who sleep longer have fewer issues with arousal, as well as higher sex drives when they wake up. Who knew the health benefits of sleep could be so fun?
Lack of sleep isn't the only thing that can curb your libido and change your sex drive. Studies have shown that birth control can effect your libido, antidepressants can affect your ability to orgasm, and, of course, stress (AKA the bane of everyone's existence) can significantly lower your desire to have sex. Even if you enjoy sex, having factors in your life which might cause a decrease in libido can be a huge bummer — for you, your partner or partners, and any relationships in which sex plays an important role.
But worry not! For everything that might cut down on your sexual desire, there are also several things as easy as sleep that help boost it again. Try out these simple three tips and tricks to increase your libido if you're feeling like your sex drive is suffering — or even if it's fine. Everyone deserves to have the best sex possible!
1. Eat more chocolate.
Chocolate is a well-known aphrodisiac because it releases serotonin and other chemicals in the body which cause the brain to get energized and causes you to feel loving and romantic. Though some research shows these sexual benefits of chocolate might be more psychological than they are rooted in biology, there are plenty of ways to make chocolate sexy enough to rev up anyone's sex drive — plus, any excuse is a valid excuse to eat more chocolate.
2. Treat yourself a glass of wine, but don't overdo it.
Too much wine can kill your libido and your ability to orgasm, but just drinking one glass can help relax you and make it easier to be intimate. In the likely case that you want both chocolate and wine, try chocolate wine, a perfect novelty red wine that can sweeten up any dinner or date.
3. Breathe in scents that relax you.
Cinnamon, vanilla, and musk are known to put people in the mood almost immediately. Since women have a stronger sense of smell than men, breathing in the smell of your favorite flower, candle, or incense can increase relaxation and melt away stress, thereby often laying the groundwork for better sex and higher desire for it.
If your libido is suffering, you don't necessarily have to resort to medicine or immediately see a doctor (although by all means, if it's an ongoing and serious problem, do go seek help from the professionals). There are a lot of ways to change your life up, if only a little bit, to make room for the fun stuff — and besides, boosting your libido shouldn't be a chore. It should be as easy as falling asleep.
