Who Is Miley Cyrus Singing About In New Music?

by Alexis Rhiannon

Miley Cyrus has never been one to shy away from drama, so it should come as no surprise that a newly-released teaser of her upcoming music is already shrouded in mystery. First of all, we're not even sure it is new music, because it didn't come out in any official capacity... should probably mention that right off the bat. Cyrus posted a video to her Instagram of herself wailing away in the studio with basically zero context, so we don't know what the song title is, when we can expect it out on an album, or even if an album is its final destination. We're flying blind here, essentially, so we're gonna have to turn to the lyrics, which are as follows:

Why do people only show forgiveness / when they wanna sound cool in a song?

What what whaaaaat? Who are we talking about here? It can't be her ex-fiancé Liam Hemsworth, right? Because he doesn't make music. (At least I hope he doesn't, because if he looked like that, was friends with Jennifer Lawrence, and could sing, it really wouldn't be fair to the rest of us.) So if it isn't him, who in her life would Cyrus be calling out on using a song to make a phony offer of forgiveness? It's a real mystery.

Regardless of the exact details, this clip proves that Cyrus is definitely going in a new and very different direction with her music. Probably has something to do with her mentor of the past few months, Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips. He posted a video of his own to Instagram, with a Cyrus track playing in the background, and it sounds like she's gone all slow and spooky on us.

Can't wait to hear the results and get some more clues on whom she's subtweeting.
