9 Women You're Lucky To Have In Your Life

All the single and non-single ladies, put your hands up! March 8 is International Women's Day, a holiday we definitely deserve. What began in 1911 as a way for working women to meet and fight for equality has since become a celebration of women's economic, political, and social achievements. On this day, we pay tribute to those who have improved the lives of women around the world and, hopefully, inspire future generations to continue the fight.

It is also a day for us to honor women who have impacted our lives on a more personal level; the ones who play an important part in our individual history. The friend you can count on for a fun-filled night. The sister who isn't afraid to tell you the truth. The mom you turn to when times are tough. When others have walked out on your life, these ladies have stuck around and supported you in one way or another. If that isn't a reason to honor them, then I don't know what is.

This International Women's Day, raise your glass and toast your female friends and family members who have changed your world in some way. Whether you have all of these women in your life or just one, take today to thank them for all they've done for you.

1. The Motherly Figure

A woman doesn't have to give birth to you to hold this title. All she has to do is love you unconditionally and talk sense into you when it's required. She constantly cares for and about you, and happily shells out her words of wisdom (whether you ask for it or not).

2. The Cube Mate

A work BFF is essential to dealing with the office politics and people. She keeps you entertained during the most mundane office meetings, and provides you with the much-needed water cooler gossip. When she steps away from g-chat, even for a minute, you feel your world crumble.

3. The Truth Teller

She is the one you turn to when you need a huge dose of honesty. This friend isn't afraid to tell you when a dress doesn't look good or when you're acting out of line. At times her words can hurt, but you quickly get over it because you know she only has your best interest at heart.

4. The Listener

When you need to vent over a glass of wine or two, this is the woman you call. Although you can talk to all your gal pals, this one won’t share her opinion unless asked. Not because she's scared of you, but because she knows that sometimes a girl just needs to complain.

5. The Defender

If you ever start a bar fight, make sure this friend is standing by your side. She always has your back in an altercation, even when you're in the wrong, and will stand up to anyone who tries to put you down.

6. The Role Model

Forget motivational posters. Although she may not know it, this woman pushes you to be the best version of yourself. Whether she's a famous political figure or a friend's sister, you share similar ambitions and will happily follow in her footsteps (in a non-stalker way, of course).

7. The Confidence Booster

At times we all suffer from low self-esteem, but it's this friend's job to make sure we aren't down for too long. Whether it's through a thumbs up emoji or a simple but sweet text, she knows just what to say to lift your spirits. And she means every word of it, too.

8. The Wild Child

You aren't afraid to let your hair down around this lady. In addition to bringing the party wherever she goes, she pushes you to do things that are way outside your comfort zone. Sometimes these missions are successful, but even when you fail you two manage to have a good time.

9. The Forever Friend

You can't remember life without this woman, and why would you two want to? You have endured life's highs and lows together, which has only strengthened your bond. Yes, you've had a few fights, but you've never stayed mad at one another for too long. Even when life pulls you apart, you know you will always find your way back to each other. Because at the end of the day, you are more than friends — you're sisters.
