Yes, I was really excited when I learned that Kendall and Kylie Jenner would be joining Kim Kardashian's iPhone game — but, honestly, I was even more excited to see that the new Kim Kardashian: Hollywood update includes a new location: Malibu! I've never been to the fancy California city in real life, so this was the next best thing. And it's a good thing that Kim added a new location, because Kylie and Kendall's appearance alone can't carry the game.
I wanted to see the sassy sisters I watch on TV, but it looks more like Kendall and Kylie's addition to the game is a marketing ploy for their book (that they totally didn't even write, but OK). After you install the new update, Kim calls on you to help her younger sisters with their new book. "I don't know if you knew this, but Kendall and Kylie are actually authors!" Kim's avatar exclaims. "They co-wrote a novel called Rebels: City of Indra."
Hello product placement! Nice to see you! It's actually the most blatant form of marketing the game contains. Sure there are references to the sisters' store Dash, but in the game it's called Kardash. And yeah, there are some Yeezy hints, but no outright Kanye West album marketing. But I let it go because I wanted to explore Malibu anyway, and I jetted off to see the Jenners.
So far I'm underwhelmed with their participation in the game. Kim basically turned them into nothing more squabbling sisters.
I think they're a lot more complex than that, and there's so much more to them than this poorly-written novel. I mean Kendall's modeling, Kylie has her hair extension business, and I wanted to get to know those sides of them because, so often, Keeping Up With the Kardashians ignores them. I hope as the game continues I get to interact with them more and see different sides of them.
But for now, at least I get to explore Malibu and all it has to offer! Here are 7 things you can do in the game's new location.
Do Some Photo Shoots
Malibu comes with its very own PopGlam, so I'm sure players will get sent on many an assignment here.
Collect Energy
There are three new places to collect bonus rewards and energy in Malibu.
- The plant next to PopGlam
- The surfboard next to Tavrn Restaurant
- The jetski on the ocean
Go On a Date
Malibu has a chic new eatery called Tavrn. It has a pretty patio for you to take a date. It will probably also be the location of some industry events later in the game. I think it's my favorite restaurant to date, because look at how pretty the inside is.
Visit Kendall & Kylie's House
In the game, the sisters live together in this swanky beach house. And apparently you can just walk in whenever you want, even if they're not home.
Buy Your Own Beach House
This is actually one of the cheaper of housing options available. The two level beach house will cost you $7200 or 30 K stars. Not a bad price to pay to have the Jenners as neighbors.
Get Your Own Norman
If you decide to buy the beach house, you can fork over another 40 K stars to get your own version of Kylie's new dog Norman. Not only do pets give you bonus rewards, but that is just the cutest digital dog I've ever seen. I'm buying him the second I save up enough K stars.
Warm Up By the Beach
Look, it's so cold out that standing by a digital beach is something I actually enjoyed a lot. The view is pretty and I was momentarily distracted from winter. Thanks Kim K.!
