This Sunday, we see the return of one of television's remaining best shows, The Walking Dead. Now that Breaking Bad is over, and Mad Men is on hiatus, TWD is pretty much going to be the only thing worth watching on AMC (sorry, Low Winter Sun), so you better believe that this premiere is anticipated like none other. Since we are all impatient beings, though, and can't bear to wait until Sunday, here's a round-up of five things we know to expect from the Season 4 premiere.
Needless to say, if you're sensitive to spoilers, don't read ahead.
There's going to be a time jump.
According to a Hollywood Reporter interview from July with executive producer Robert Kirkman, a few months have passed between the end of Season 3 and the beginning of Season 4: "There's going to be a bit of a time jump ... It's only a few months, we're not nailing down the exact number of days or anything like that. The prison that we see is a very different prison and the characters that we see are very different from the last time we saw them."
The prison will become unsafe for Rick and the gang.
We've seen this one in the promos: Someone is messing with Rick and the gang by letting walkers into the prison, so their once-sanctuary is going to become a real dangerous place to be this season.
If you're not expecting to see The Governor, think again — homeboy's ALIVE.
It was confirmed this past April that David Morrissey would be returning to his role as the psychotic Governor of Woodbury in Season 4, despite things looking pretty grim for him at the end of season three. Expect carnage.
Showrunner Scott Gimple has called this season "a greatest hits approach," so people will probably die.
OK, I actually don't know what that means, but that's what Scott Gimple said in an interview with EW about Season 4. Also, this is The Walking Dead. Characters will die. (But if it's Daryl, I will personally lead fans bearing pitchforks and torches over to AMC's offices. Just saying.)
Don't expect to see a rehashing of the comics.
Though Scott Gimple has revealed that some plotlines in Season 4 will be based on the comics, don't expect to see a solid retelling — that's not gonna happen. Speaking to EW, Gimple revealed: "You know that the show and the comic book are in very different places, so in some ways we can’t do exactly what was in the comic book in many ways. But the way I look upon it is that it’s sort of like a remix of the comic books."
Either way, count us in.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Oct. 13, at 9 PM.
