Good news for Fifty Shades of Grey fans, Jamie Dornan isn't leaving the series, and in fact he's very excited about the sequels. Earlier this week, an Australian paper reported that Dornan was backing out of the Fifty Shades follow-up films, but that's not actually the case. Although tabloids and Twitter alike took the news and ran with it, Dornan's rep released a statement that should reassure fans of the BDSM book and its movie counterpart.
"Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film," his rep told People magazine. I'm glad someone spoke out on his behalf, because things were getting out of hand.
The original story said that Dornan was leaving the series at the request of his wife Amelia Warner, who was reportedly uncomfortable with the sexually explicit scenes. Although that might be true (Dornan says she hasn't seen the film, and probably won't), that doesn't mean she's delivered some sort of ultimatum. In fact, Dornan addressed both her stance on the film and the content of the movie at the premiere saying, "There's some stuff that my family and friends wouldn't have seen that side of me before, but it wasn't enough to make me not do it or anything."
But after hearing rumors of his departure, Twitter exploded into a ball of rage aimed towards Dornan's wife, and it got pretty cruel.
Fortunately his leaving was just an unfounded rumor, and fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing if (and when) the studio announces Fifty Shades Darker, Dornan is in. Everyone can calm down now.
