Raise your hand if you're a fan of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants . Who doesn't love the movie that focuses on the strong bond four young girls share throughout their entire lives? If that film doesn't emphasize the importance of friendship, then I don't know what does. In an interview with Meredith Vieira on The Meredith Vieira Show, America Ferrera talked about friendship and whether there will be another Sisterhood movie. Good news: per Ferrera, there is a script being written. Better news: Ferrera, Blake Lively, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel are still best friends.
Ferrera told Vieira,
They’re my girls, three of my best friends to this day. I was 20 when I met them, I am 30 now and they are still three of my best friends and supporters. Why I love that movie so much was at that time there wasn’t a lot of sisterhood and stories of young girls being supportive of each other.
Ferrera went on to say that what the movie and her real-life friendship with the three other actresses has taught others is how important it is for girls of all ages to support, inspire, and lift one another up rather than putting each another down. She explained,
What’s wonderful about these girls in my life is, people expect girls and women to be competitive, and we made a decision to love and support each other offscreen and onscreen. I think that’s why people love this movie because it reminds you of the power of relationship and the power that girls have to be each others champions. I love that our audience has grown up with us and that they are excited to see what’s happening with the sisterhood.
Everyone should look at friendship through Ferrera's eyes. Once again, she is speaking words of wisdom. I didn't think it was possible to admire here even more, but, again, she keeps on surprising and impressing me.
