Fans of Amy Schumer and romantic comedies, I hope you're sitting down! The trailer for her upcoming movie Trainwreck was just released today, and it looks better than I could have imagined, even in my wildest dreams. Admittedly, Trainwreck already had a bunch going for it, with Schumer as not only the main actor but also the writer, Judd Apatow directing, and Bill Hader as the romantic lead, but I was still nervous. It seemed too good to be true. I can't be the only person who's ever been burned by a movie chock-full of her favorite stars, and I promised myself I wouldn't go down that road again.
And now it looks like I don't have to. Because this Trainwreck trailer is killer. Just killer. It stars Schumer as a woman named, well, Amy, who stopped believing in monogamy as a kid after her parents' divorce. But that doesn't mean she's lost faith in sex, because c'mon, it's 2015. Finally, finally, we appear to be at a place societally where we can see a montage of a woman unapologetically having no-strings-attached sex with random dudes. Nobody calls her a slut (at least not in the trailer), she doesn't dream of marriage, and when she does finally get her worldview shaken up, it's because Hader's character is such a great guy, not because she "realized the error of her ways" or whatever.
What is this I'm smelling? Could it be a breath of fresh air? (Or is that just stale hangover vom?)
Oh yeah and did I mention? This movie also features gems like Vanessa Bayer, Brie Larson, Tilda Swinton as Amy's boss at the men's magazine, and a list of amazing comedians so long that I don't even know where to start.
Basically what I'm saying is, who's coming to see this movie with me? I'll bring my big purse so we can sneak in a couple bottles of wine.
