You know that thing where you've been pregnant for nine months, and then you give birth to the baby and you're like, "Wow, who even are you?" Well Scarlett Johansson does — she says when her daughter was born this past September, Scarlett didn't even recognize little Rose Dorothy Dauriac, because she didn't look anything like what she'd imagined.
As she explained to W Magazine in a recent interview, ScarJo had spent her entire pregnancy picturing Rose a certain way, and she couldn't have been more wrong.
When she came out of me, I was so surprised. I had a very strong picture in my mind of what my baby would look like. And, of course, she is completely different. Perfect, but not what I’d imagined. Now, of course, I can’t picture her any other way.
Now, pardon me for a moment as I have a very visceral response to "when she came out of me"... and here we go, we're back. I imagine many people have this same experience, where they've mentally decided what their baby looks like and been way off, but Scarlett just happens to be the first person I've ever heard speak about it. It does make total sense, though! The same way you imagine the face of a future romantic partner before you meet them, and you're inevitably way off — although that said, I'll still keep my fingers crossed for tall, dark, and handsome, if you don't mind.
It just proves that even when you're home-growing a human in your belly, you don't have the first clue what they're gonna look like until you meet them face-to-face and fall in love with their tiny baby self. (Ouch, my ovaries.)
