8 Ways to Wear Overalls — Without Looking Like an Overgrown Child

Thanks to the latest round of convincing runway appeals (as evidenced here, here, and here), it seems like we still have the "go ahead" from the fashion higher-ups to dabble in the art of overall dressing. But with said approval comes great responsibility — one that lands squarely on avoiding looking like an overgrown version of the OshKosh B'gosh kid. In honor of this '90s staple comeback, here are eight ways to wear 'em whilst still retaining the respect of your peers.

Get Wild

You're already taking the overalls leap, why not take a walk on the wild side too? Exotic prints — like this leopard one — offer up a louder statement, so keep the rest of the details (bag, shoes, sunglasses) monochromatic and simple.

Winter Is Coming

To give a pair of lightwash overalls its wintry due, add a structure cap (or whatever head-covering thing you prefer) and coat to the mix.

In the Details

If you're into wearing all white, give the look a little something extra by going with an embroidered pair.

Polished (But Not Too Polished)

Overalls should never be a serious affair, but that doesn't mean doing away with a polished aesthetic altogether. Like The Man Repeller, offset the denim and sneakers with a blazer and button up.

Texture Times Two

For a more girlish effect, style them with a ruffled top — or a floral-printed version works, too. As for the furry statement clutch, that's your call.

Grunge Gear

Pair slick black leather overalls with a cashmere sweater (no sleeveless-ness in cold weather, please) and a ribbed beanie. This look is definitely for the girl who isn't petrified of the grunge comeback.

Go All the Way

You're already wearing overalls, so why not go all the way with the styling: One strap. And while you're at it, throw on your most glamorous winter coat.

Red Wins

Apparently all that's needed to make overalls look really, really good is a red blazer, red clutch, and nude pumps.
