Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit isn't set to hit theaters until December, but Paramount — likely in honor of author Tom Clancy's sudden and tragic death earlier this week — have already rolled out the first trailer. The film, which was directed by Kenneth Branagh, stars Chris Pine as Clancy's most infamous and well-known character, CIA agent Jack Ryan, and Keira Knightly as his one and only ladylove who doesn't deal well with the fact that her husband of three years has been working for the CIA.
Kevin Costner also stars as Ryan's handler, who upgrades him from analyst to operational agent in this first film that Paramount is clearly clean to turn into a franchise. Ryan, though a newbie in the field, is clearly innately talented — something displayed by the fact he's able to knock an armed assailant out with no gun. Is he in danger, or is he the danger?
This isn't the first time that Clancy's popular Jack Ryan series has been brought to the big screen — in addition to Pine, Jack Ryan has been portrayed by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck in the past.
