Rihanna's Grammy Performance Needs to Be Amazing

by Kenya Foy

January blew in and out of here so quickly that it's hard to believe Grammy season is officially upon us. That means it's time to put all the other February holidays on the celebratory back burner for a second (I'm looking at you, Valentine's Day) and focus on all the musical speculation that awaits. For instance, a considerable amount of time absolutely must be devoted to discussing who will totally kill it on the red carpet (and who won't), who's set to present or perform, and of course which artists will walk away gleefully clenching the gilded gramophone trophy. Thankfully, there's already an answer to one of those questions that's sure to turn the Grammy fever up a notch — a Rihanna, Kanye, and Paul McCartney Grammys performance has been confirmed.

The announcement came Tuesday from the Grammys official Twitter account shortly after Rihanna released her video for "FourFiveSeconds." Obviously, there's nothing like a Rihanna performance to liven up the show so I'm totally here for it. Last year's Grammy Awards performances included Beyoncé and Jay Z's "Drunk in Love" set, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons' energetic show and the total grooviness of Daft Punk, Stevie Wonder, Pharrell & Nile Rodgers' "Get Lucky." With all of those tough acts to follow, I expect this Rihanna, Yeezy, McCartney performance to be really special, even though the video left me feeling kind of underwhelmed.

But, there's still hope, as long as they adhere to the following basic guidelines:

Kanye Needs To Play It Cool

Seriously I don't want to see Yeezy dominating the stage, or ranting and stopping the show to make everyone in the crowd stand up.

A Solo By Sir McCartney

It'd be great for McCartney to show off his legendary skills for some of those people who believed West discovered him. Sigh.

Rihanna's Look Must Be To Die For

OK, so I know this sounds like a given, but the song is just so damn laid-back that I need Rih's show ensemble to steal my breath and completely take the performance to another level.
