Jill Soloway's Feminist Comedy Sounds Amazing

by Kelly Schremph

Question: what could be better than a feminist comedy? Answer: absolutely nothing! And fortunately we won't have to wait long to see such a glorious creation come to fruition. According to Deadline, Transparent creator Jill Soloway has inked a deal with MTV to develop a feminist comedy alongside Upright Citizens Brigade duo Lyle Friedman and Ashley Skidmore. The project — which currently remains untitled — will seek to center around two young girls who meet each other at summer camp and bond over their passion for second-wave feminism (as one should always do throughout camp and life in general). During a wild night in the forest, both girls end up getting struck by lightning, thus making their friendship, power, and destiny fatefully sealed. Now, ten years later, they romp around town hell-bent on saving all of womankind — if only they could save themselves first.

So basically, this series will be all about girl power to the max degree, which sounds downright phenomenal. And given what we've seen with Soloway's capabilities lately (don't forget Transparent just took home the Golden Globe for Best Comedy) I am fully confident that this will be yet another must-see series. Plan your DVR settings accordingly, my friends.

As for her part, Soloway could not be more thrilled to get started on her latest endeavor and is beyond excited with the team they're building. “Lyle and Ashley have a magical ability to tap into the female psyche, and through their own special brand of truth and humor they absolve us of our most humiliating moments,” Soloway said. “I’m so excited to godmother this show and bring Lyle and Ashley’s fresh take on lady power to MTV."

So keep your eye out for this one, folks. Something tells me it's going to be amazing.
