Once the very serious business of the Super Bowl's first half wrapped up, we were treated to a very delightful — and absurd, at times — Pepsi halftime show headlined by pop superstar Katy Perry. And boy was it a show! Perry (lip?) sung a medley of all her pop hits, including "I Kissed a Girl," "Dark Horse," and "Firework." Much like her super fun music videos, Perry's halftime extravaganza had so many colors and completely crazy/absurd/adorable moments with special guests Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz, as well as dancing sharks, smiley palm trees, a giant gold lion-shaped thing, and what I'm pretty sure was the NBC "The More You Know" star.
Perry started out the concert in a dress that literally looked like fire and flames and she rode out on a plated lion, singing "Roar." Because — you get it, right? — you're gonna hear her roar. And she's on fire. After dancing in some darkness, suddenly the pop star's performance lightened up with her singing "Teenage Dream" and "California Gurls" in a cartoon filled with dancing palm trees, surf boards, sharks, and beach balls. They all had smiley faces as the happiest beach ever. It's a world I wish were real so I could go live in it.
Twitter accurately compared it to the following images.
But once you thought that was as awesomely absurd as it was going to get, that's when Perry broke into singing "Firework" as an actual firework. Or shooting star. Or, really, the star from the old NBC "More You Know" commercials.
I mean, you can see it, right? You can just hear the NBC chimes as she glided across the stage on the star.
Twitter definitely saw it and reacted appropriately.
Thank you, Katy Perry, for bringing us all some absurd light and humor during this super serious football game.
