The speculation has been building about Katy Perry's Super Bowl halftime performance, and it's finally upon us. What did Katy Perry wear at Super Bowl halftime? The pop star is known for outfits that pop, and her press conference showed us that she is aware of the pressure to keep everything in place. Even though she has an outlandish reputation, she knows the Super Bowl is not the safest place to mess with wardrobe. Janet Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction may have been 11 years ago, but the memory hangs over us. Miss Perry arrived atop a puppet lion straight from the theatrical production of War Horse and started her performance donning a flame suit. Yup, she was covered in a short metalic fire dress, and her backup dancers were dressed as chess pieces.
Who cares that having Lenny Kravitz sing "I Kissed A Girl" sort of took away from the meaning of the song? I still liked it. Katy Perry, on the other hand, had three costume changes to go. She may have worn the same silver shoes for the entire show (which looked comfortable to boot, no pun intended) and the same ponytail, but everything else changed. The second outfit, for "Teenage Dream" and "California Girls" was supposed to be a beach ball? We went from The Hunger Games to a Beach Party movie from the 1960s.
Now that we know Missy Elliot was Perry's surprise guest performer, the outfit matters all the more. How could these worlds combine? Katy's third change of the night, to basically be Missy Elliot's hype girl, was an over-sized, sparkling jersey.
Next, Perry slowed it down and became a shooting star that flew above the crowd during "Firework" on a rig that looked an awful lot like the "The More You Know" public service announcement animation. Her dress was long, white, and covered in stars.
All in all, not too crazy! In other news, Perry tweeted this official outfit, which is available for purchase, and she directed us to the Press Conference earrings she wore the other day.
Do you think the sweater dress compares any of her four performance costumes?
