Who Auditioned To Play Christian Grey? ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Could’ve Starred One Of These 8 Men
As we all know, in the upcoming film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, Jamie Dornan is playing Christian Grey, but he wasn't the only one who wanted the role. Like with most parts, actors had to audition for the hot and steamy role, meaning Dornan wasn't the first choice. Actually, those in charge of filling the role went through a lot of men. With that said, here are eight other actors who could have easily scored the highly sought after part.
Charlie Hunnam
This one is a given, seeing as Charlie Hunnam was originally cast as Christian Grey. The Sons of Anarchy actor ended up leaving the role due to “scheduling” reasons. I have no doubt many fans would have loved to see Hunnam in this film.
Stephen Amell
The CW’s Oliver Queen as Christian Grey? Um, yes, please. Stephen Amell didn’t exactly audition for the Fifty Shades role, but he did have a meeting about it. Even if he didn’t land the part, at least we get to watch him in action every week on Arrow.
Billy Magnussen
The Into the Woods prince almost scored the role, and, guess what? Billy Magnussen isn’t mad he didn’t get the part. As he told Variety, “You know, I don’t really care. It’s what fate had in store. It’s never really losing a role. It’s never mine to begin with, so how can I be upset for something I never had?”
Thom Evans
The former Scottish rugby player didn’t get the part, but Thom Evans had a great time during his audition. As he told Attitude, “I actually went up for Jamie’s role of Christian Grey. The audition was pretty tame to be honest, but it was a great experience for me. It’s such a huge project and I’d be lying to say I wouldn’t have loved to have got the role. But I think Jamie is perfect for it and I can’t wait to see it.”
Sean O'Pry
Sean O’Pry isn’t only in Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” music video, but he also almost got the role of Christian Grey. Like most of the others who read for the part, O’Pry was thrilled just to have a shot. He said, “I think it was more the acting ability at the time. Congrats to Jamie [Dornan] though. I mean, Jamie’s so nice… it was cool to read [for] it.
Jessie Pavelka
Now, we have The Biggest Loser ’s Jessie Pavelka, who, yes, also wanted to get some S&M time. Even though the trainer auditioned, he’s not sure if he would have looked good in the costumes. He told Entertainment Tonight, “I did audition for it but that is where it stopped. I don’t know how I would look in leather bondage.”
Alex Pettyfer
It only makes sense that this Magic Mike star would try out for the sexy film. He reportedly submitted a test scene, which was also said to include a sex scene directed by Gus Van Sant. The tape was also a bid for Van Sant, who wanted to the direct the movie. Neither Van Sant nor Pettyfer ended up getting the gig.
John Oliver
OK. This is totally a joke, but you have to admit that John Oliver’s Fifty Shades of Grey audition is hilarious. Right? Why wouldn’t it be included in this list? Plus, Oliver is totally the “the epitome of male beauty.”
