If you don't know Lorde by name yet, trust me — you've probably heard her debut single, "Royals," somewhere. That track has been just about everywhere this summer, and with Lorde's haunting vocals, electronic-y pop beat, and her witty lyrics ("We don't care/ We're driving Cadillacs in our dreams" is a wonderful, wonderful line), the song is a creative and technical masterpiece. Also, it doesn't hurt that Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, is an adorable New Zealander, and, at 16 years of age, wiser about feminism, gender roles, and the patriarchy than most of the old men in Congress. With her recently-released debut album, "Pure Heroine," getting rave reviews, Lorde appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night to promote the album and make her first U.S. TV debut.
The performance itself, of course, is pretty flawless — she performed "Royals," her most popular song to date. Lorde's voice is just as alluring live as it is in studio tracks, and her stage presence is outstanding for a girl that hasn't even finished Grammar School in New Zealand yet. In short, you should probably all start paying attention to this girl, because she is going to be everywhere soon enough.
