No matter that twerking has been around since at least the early '90s – if you ask Iggy Azalea, Miley Cyrus learned to twerk from her. In a new interview with Paper magazine, the "Work" singer commented on Miley's recent "controversial" behavior (like everyone else in the world has been lately), specifically the twerking: "I've been doing that onstage for two-and-a-half years," Azalea said of Cyrus. "She probably fucking watched my videos online and decided to try it."
Or Miley listened to the Ying Yang Twins' 2000 song "Whistle While You Twurk," which predates Iggy's career by, oh, about TEN WHOLE YEARS. You know, either way. This better not start some sort of music industry controversy between Iggy and Miley, because honestly, no one needs to be fighting about twerking.
To her credit, Azalea has been twerking on stage for a while. Though not as long as the actual trend has been around, Azalea often twerks during her performances with her back-up dancers because "people just wanna see my butt," and claims they've been doing "dance-offs" during shows for years, but nobody put it online until a more recent show at NYC's Bowery Ballroom. Duly noted, Iggy, duly noted.
Anyway, Iggy's first major-label debut LP, "The New Classic," is set to be released next month. Miley's newest album, Bangerz, will be as well. You can check out Iggy's full interview with Paper here.
