The Avengers & Spider-Man Might Reunite
For Marvel fans it's long been a far-off dream: That Marvel could re-claim Spider-Man and put him in his rightful place alongside the Avengers. Then, as 2014 came to a close, it was revealed that Marvel had actually been corresponding with Spider-Man rights-holders Sony over the possibility of making that a reality in Captain America: Civil War. Things seemed to have fallen through with that deal, but now another rumor's bubbled up: That Spider-Man could be in Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1, the third of the Avengers movies.
One of the things that's been long and strongly rumored about Infinity War is that it will feature the current Avengers line-up completely shaken up, giving the A-listers who make it up a chance to leave their superhero roles. That makes sense given that we already have the confirmed departure of one of them (Chris Evans is leaving after Civil War), and given that Marvel has a ton of other heroes rife for these roles (Captain Marvel, for one). We've already established that Age Of Ultron could very likely be the host of intros for a couple of those characters, at least if certain post-credits sequence rumors are to be believed.
And now Latino Review is playing host to the rumor that Spidey could be one of the new additions. Here's their hypothesis (potential spoilers if they're right):
I don’t have the exact details nor a paper trail, but I’m told we’ll see an MCU Spider-Man in Infinity Wars Part 1, as that was the next logical place to insert him after they missed the window to logically include him in Civil War.
It’s sounding like Infinity War Part 1 will be the first true test of our New Avengers team (line-up still pending, but here are the potentials: Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jewel/Power Woman, ANY of the New Inhumans, ANY of the classic Inhumans, ANY of the Guardians of the Galaxy and ANY Cosmic Marvel characters Guardians chooses to send to Earth...oh, and Spider-Man).
If the Spidey part of this happens it'd be a huge deal. If the Spidey part happens you'll also probably able to hear the joyful shrieks of Marvel fans from actual space.
One of the long crying shames of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the lack of access to Spider-Man. Forget Amazing Spider-Man and its arguable quality, this actually goes back to the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man: Because Peter Parker is an Avenger, but we've never seen that reflected on the big screen. He's never gotten to pal around with his fellow Avengers. It's already a crying shame that he's not involved (as far as we know) in Civil War — he's a HUGE part of the emotional center of that story.
Whether this rumor has merit is extremely debatable; there are a thousand reasons it could be not-true. But it's worth hoping that it is, because Marvel is where Spider-Man belongs.
