Demi's Starting a New Social Media Trend

Forget your #flashbackfridays and #throwbackthursdays, there's a new Instagram trend to celebrate — and this one actually has a good intention behind it. Demi Lovato posted a makeup free selfie to her Instagram on Monday, in an attempt to start a new trend: #NoMakeupMonday. Ready to toss the mascara and follow suit?

The 22-year-old shared the stunning selfie of her lying in bed, so literally she just woke up like that. Her cosmetic free face was glowing, and seeing her natural beauty almost makes me wonder why she bothers to wear makeup at all. Demi captioned the photo:

"Forgot to post this a while back… Let's start a new Twitter/Instagram trend: #NoMakeupMonday… Why? Cause we deserve to show the world our beauty and our confidence!!! #NMM #NoMakeupMonday"

Encouraging girls to love themselves as they are is clearly a great cause to use a celebrity status to promote, and is far more productive than any type of body shaming. Although if this becomes a social media trend that actually takes off, I just hope girls get behind the true meaning of the movement and actually go sans makeup. Let's not have any of that photoshopping or "natural makeup" masquerading as no makeup and pretend we all woke up like that.
