Charli XCX Teams Up With Rita Ora on "Doing It"
On Thursday, rising pop star Charli XCX premiered a new remix of "Doing It" featuring Rita Ora. The fun, '80s-tinged ode to friendship, which was produced by Grammy Award winner Ariel Rechtshaid, is the third single to be lifted from Charli's fantastic mainstream debut album, Sucker. Truthfully, I wanted "Famous" to be next, but there's still hope: Billboard reports that "Doing It" was selected as Charli's U.K. single (though it could be released in the United States in the future). Some fans are questioning whether or not this new remix was necessary, and while I can definitely see where they're coming from, I think that it was. Admittedly, it isn't much different from the original version, but if you ask me, Ora's voice compliments Charli's nicely.
Additionally, it's possible that Ora's involvement will help "Doing It" to become a hit. After all, the "I Will Never Let You Down" singer has notched four No. 1 songs on the U.K. charts since 2012. That's great news for Charli — especially when you consider that Sucker's second single, "Break the Rules," underperformed in the United Kingdom. On the flip side, "Doing It" is probably a good way for Ora to keep her name out there until she releases her next solo offering, the Diplo-produced "Testosterone," in March. It's a win-win situation!
On "Doing It's" first verse, Charli sings about two longtime pals who have been reunited at last:
Waited so long just to be here
Now we're bringing this back to life
Yeah, we're bringing this back to life
Want you to know how I miss ya
Now I got you right by my side
Yeah, I got you right by my side
Ora keeps the friendship theme going on the second verse:
Friends like a team in a circle
We're together, we're so alive
Yeah, together we're so alive
Joy like a jewel, let it sparkle
Know that I got your back for life
Yeah, I got your back for life
The two women come together for the irresistible chorus:
We're staying all night
We never slow down
I think we better do it like we're doing it now
It's been a long time
Since we've been around
So come on, let's keep doing it like we're doing it
Doing it like we're doing it
Sucker is available in stores and on iTunes now.
