36 Celebrities Who Had Twitter Feuds That Were Incredibly Awkward
Is there anything more annoying that witnessing two pals get passive aggressive with one another over social media? While you may roll your eyes at their ridiculous subtweets and 140-character snipes, they're not alone in using Twitter to start arguments. Even famous people use the platform as their own personal battleground, especially when it comes to picking feuds with other celebrities. So which celebrities tweeted their way into ridiculous arguments with other stars? Click through to find out.
Sinead O'Connor
O’Connor posted an open letter to Cyrus online, in which she begged the young star not to exploit herself after Cyrus stripped down in her music video. Cyrus took to Twitter (O’Connor allegedly doesn’t tweet) to poke fun at the singer’s past with mental illness, stating, “Before Amanda Bynes…”
Rita Ora
The 50 Shades of Grey singer is SO not on good terms with her ex-boyfriend, who trashed her in a Twitter tirade. (Don’t worry, she totally held her own.)
Rob Kardashian
Bette Midler
Midler threw shade at this up-and-coming singer in an interview when she remarked that the singer shouldn’t have to dress “like a whore” to get ahead.
Ariana Grande
Grande took to Twitter (the young people’s way of throwing shade!) by tweeting a pic of Midler in a skimpy outfit of her own. Midler responded via the social platform that Grande has a beautiful voice — on the couch or off.
Frances Bean Cobain
Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain’s daughter didn’t take this singer’s careless comment about dying young lightly.
Lana Del Rey
After learning that Del Rey said that she wanted to die young in an interview, Cobain tweeted that she shouldn’t romanticize dying young — it’s just not cool. Del Rey tweeted back that her quotes were taken out of context, but it didn’t exactly make the whole situation any less awkward.
Shia LaBeouf
LaBeouf poked the bear when he made a snide remark about this actor in an interview.
Frankie Muniz
LaBeouf’s dig at Muniz in an interview pissed off the actor so much that he took to Twitter to tell the actor to “stop talking about him.” When a Shia-supporter tweeted that the former Malcolm and the Middle star was “just awful,” Muniz also dissed the fan via the social platform, tweeting he made millions before he turned 19 and “good luck moving out of your mom’s house.”
Iggy Azalea
The “Fancy” singer couldn’t ignore this rapper’s comments about her appearance.
Snoop Dogg
The rapper went on a Twitter tirade about Iggy Azalea, dissing both her appearance and her rapping. Though the “Black Widow” singer did say that she could post a ton of memes about Snoop’s appearance, she then tweeted that she was going to be the “bigger man” and leave the whole thing alone — which was probably for the best.
Kim Kardashian
The reality star stuck up for her younger brother on Twitter after his ex called him out — and no, it wasn’t Rita Ora.
Adrienne Bailon
Bailon and Kardashian dated foreverrrr, but things went sour and the couple broke up. Bailon told Latina magazine that being associated with the Kardashian label hurt her career, to which Kim K. tweeted that it was actually the only reason why she was relevant. Sadly, not untrue…
Drake Bell
Though it’s a little unclear why, the former Nickelodeon star loooves trolling this singer on Twitter.
Justin Bieber
I have no idea what beef Bell really has with the Biebs. The only explanation I can come up with is that Bell is trying to see just how many Beliebers he can piss off before an actual war begins. He’s a fan of posting anti-Bieber memes, criticizing the “Baby” singer’s music, and, of course, calling him 5’6’. (Probably his real height, but so what?)
Katy Perry
Another pop star took a shot at the “Dark Horse” singer’s ex on Twitter.
Miley Cyrus
After Perry made a comment about how she totally didn’t want to lock lips with Cyrus during a performance because she “didn’t know where that tongue has been,” Cyrus retaliated by tweeting at Perry that maybe she should be more worried about where her ex-boyfriend (presumably John Mayer?) had had his tongue.
Seth Rogen
The This is the End star blatantly insulted this singer for, well, no reason at all.
Justin Bieber
The Biebs gets a whole lotta haters on Twitter, but perhaps the most surprising shade he received was Rogen calling him “a piece of shit” completely out of the blue. And we all thought Canadians were such a gentle people.
Diplo
The DJ made a nasty comment about this pop star’s body via Twitter.
Taylor Swift
Diplo — who happens to be maybe-dating Swift’s alleged enemy Katy Perry — took to Twitter to ask fans for donations to “get Taylor Swift a booty.” The “Blank Space” singer’s pal Lorde jumped in to defend her friend via the social network, asking when fans would be able to help with Diplo’s small penis. HA.
T-Boz
The TLC singer’s criticism of this pop star’s style prompted said pop star to call her out via Twitter.
Rihanna
After T-Boz criticized Rihanna’s sexy (and mostly invisible) diamond dress in an interview, the “Pour It Up” singer fired back on Twitter, tweeting that she won’t change for anyone. She also tweeted out a photo shoot of the TLC girls sans-clothes to make a point about T-Boz’s hypocrisy.
Lucy Hale
When the Pretty Little Liars star broke up with her boyfriend, he did the mature thing and stayed quiet. Just kidding.
Chris Zylka
Following his split with Hale, The Leftover’s star tweeted that he “didn’t have a girlfriend anymore” because she thought she was “too good.” He later apologized for the post-breakup tweets, but things got reallllly awkward for a second there.
Ciara
These two singers have clashed numerous times over the years and weren’t shy about sharing their distaste for each other with their Twitter followers.
Rihanna
Oh, look at that — Rihanna again! After Ciara told Fashion Police that the “Diamonds” singer wasn’t particularly friendly, RiRi took to Twitter to ask Ciara if she was mad because she “forgot to tip” her. Ciara fired back on the micro-blogging site and said that Rihanna’s “obsession” with her made no sense — and that maybe she just needed some “love and affection,” referencing Rihanna’s “Love Song.”
Lindsay Lohan
The Mean Girls actress exchanged fighting words (in under 140 characters) with this late comedian.
Joan Rivers
After Rivers suggested that Lohan’s idea of being sworn in was cursing at the judge, the actress tweeted back that Rivers was a “perfect match” for her then-estranged father, Michael Lohan.
Courtney Love
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but the Hole singer’s tweets prove that she doesn’t exactly feel that way.
The Veronicas
Love tweeted at the Australian musical duo to stop wearing her “stolen clothes.” She later clarified that no, she was not being literal — the singer was just peeved they ripped off her look.
Lily Allen
This rapper took a swing at the “Hard Out Here” singer by tweeting a mean diss about her husband.
Azealia Banks
The “212” rapper feuds with everyone on Twitter, but perhaps the oddest diss she dished out was this one at Allen. Banks tweeted that the singer’s husband “looks like a thumb.” Allen fired back, calling Banks a “one hit wonder” and defended her hubby by saying that “we all need thumbs.” The latter is probably not the response I would have gone with, but whatever works…
Jay Z
Jay Z’s response to a fan via Twitter was a total diss to this pop star.
Miley Cyrus
When a fan tweeted at Jay Z asking whether Miley Cyrus was still “twerking somewhere in America” (a reference to the rapper’s “Somewhere in America”) Beyonce’s husband responded “Yes!” and said that she represents the “old world’s worst nightmare.” The “We Can’t Stop” singer had the last word and tweeted back that she was happy to take out the old world and bring in the new.
