How Did Matt & Camila Meet?

Golden Globes time is near and I don't know about you, but one of my favorite parts of the show is, of course, watching the red carpet coverage and drooling over dresses and very beautiful couples because there will be plenty of both. Although I did have some issues with Matthew McConaughey and the Interstellar crew being snubbed at the SAG awards (and subsequently, the Golden Globes) I found some relief in knowing that my favorite Texan would be back in the building with nominations — from both the SAGs and Golden Globes — for his work on True Detective. And speaking of beautiful couples, there is no doubt that we can expect a stunning turnout on the carpet from his wife, Camila Alves. In fact, this got me thinking that I've never known how Matthew McConaughey actually met Camila Alves, his Brazilian model wife.

Prior to being seen out and about with Alves, McConaughey dated some big leading actresses in Hollywood — including Ashley Judd, Sandra Bullock, and Penelope Cruz — so I was shocked and jealous when I saw this "normal" non-actress dating him, because it should have been me! I'm a brunette too!!!

Well, turns out their meeting was shockingly average, something that could happen to any one of us. Although Matt Damon meeting his wife Luciana Barroso while she was working a bartender in Miami tops my list of favorite romantic celeb tales, McConaughey and Alves meeting at a nightclub is just as endearing. Alves shared with Access Hollywood,

We met at Hyde, of all places. We had two interactions at the bar. The first interaction, I did not know who he was. At the time he had a really long beard, and he had this Rasta hat. He was all covered up, and I didn't really realize who he was.

She then goes on to share that it wasn't until she recognized his best friend Lance Armstrong, who had come up to speak to her as well, that she realized who McConaughey was. She continued to Access Hollywood, "You knew they were always together, so I'm like, OK, I'm outta here. I'm going to the other side of the room!"

Well, looks like he charmed her anyway because they've been together since that meeting in 2006. But, they've also shared that their first meeting wasn't the same experience for them both.

During McConaughey's appearance on Inside the Actor's Studio , host James Lipton turned to ask Alves how they met, where she re-iterated the nightclub story. Lipton asked Alves whether it was love at first sight to which she replied "Um...." with a sly smile. Well, that sounds like some of my dates...

The cutest part of their appearance on the show is when McConaughey interjected that it was love at first sight for him and said when he saw her for the first time,

I didn't say, "Who is that?" I said, 'What is that?'" I was like, "Woo-ha! Wow!"

And that's all it takes, folks! They've been married since 2012, with three beautiful babies, an Oscar win, and a star on the Walk of Fame. Life sure is good for the McConaugheys. Hopefully I'll meet my hot, Oscar-winning cowboy boyfriend while I'm out this weekend. BRB, gotta go plan my outfit...
