Her NYE Style Is Not What You Expect
Most New Year's Eve outfits involve a dress carrying heavy sequins, sky-high stilettos and hopefully a coat or matching fleece pajamas with your pet, perfect for a night well spent bringing in the new year at home with Netflix. Regardless of your occasion or attire, you most likely didn't even consider going camping for the eve of 2015. Nevertheless, you can consider it officially in style now that Solange Knowles' NYE camping trip has proven that there is beauty in the wild when you add good friends and, of course, good clothes to the equation.
Instead of popping champagne bottles at a rooftop hotel, Knowles and her husband, Alan Ferguson, celebrated their first New Year's together as newlyweds in the mountains at Johnson National Tree Park in California. Fresh off their private time together during their glorious, Pinterest-worthy honeymoon, the couple decided to invite a slew of cool friends along on their trip--Darlene and Lizzy Okpo from William Okpo, Joshua Kissi from Street Etiquette, Shiona Turini from Cosmopolitan, and others--to toast mason jars of Jack Daniels to the New Year. Libations and laughter filled what Solange thumbed the "turnup teepee," a hashtag used amongst all of the trip's guests, and courtesy of Shelter-co, a pop-up camping company that has officially been added to the bucket lists of Solange fans everywhere.
Of course, an alternative NYE trip planned by Mrs. Knowles-Ferguson must always be complemented by a style twist more than worthy of a VSCO filter.
Instead of playing in bright colors, which she is mostly praised and known for, she kept it earthy much like her camp grounds, opting for a simple American Apparel bikini that featured a bandeau and high-waisted bottom and knee-high Stuart Weitzman suede boots. Because it just wouldn't have been right without a touch of color, she threw on an Elizabeth & James fur coat that is pretty much the only winter staple we all need, but can't afford.
In true alternative fashion, Knowles has ushered in "glamping," a portmanteau of glamour and camping, as fashion's word of 2015. Start ordering your outdoor gear from Amazon now, and begin to practice your #nomakeup #thegreatoutdoors selfies. The singer, designer, producer and fashion fiend has officially put outdoors on-trend for the next 363 days.
