27 Times When Katy Perry's Hair Was The Craziest Part of 2014
It's been a real year for Katy Perry's hair. Sure, Katy's had an impressive run on the charts and with her incredible Prismatic tour (I went, it was better than "On The Run", deal with it), but it's her hair that's taken the limelight on more than one occasion. Katy is known for her theatrics, and in 2014 she didn't disappoint, with hair appearing at some point in almost every color of the rainbow. Dominated by slime green and her signature, retro-Katy pitch black, the "Dark Horse" singer was not shy about transforming her cranium on a regular basis.
Just when you thought you had Katy's 'do locked down, BAM!—she changed it up. Ombre, rainbow, club kid buns and epic ponytails; you name it, it was on Katy Perry's head in 2014. I mean, the woman even had a glowing mane flowing down her back for one of her tour costumes. And let's never forget the ultimate moment when Katy Perry, in long black hair and bangs, took Riff Raff down the red carpet at the VMAs wearing matching double denim in tribute to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. So to Katy Perry and her hair stylist, we salute you. Here's to many more years of colorful, ridiculous, incredible Katy Perry hair.

Team spirit buns
Because Katy Perry’s style is all about spirit, and embracing everything she does to the nth degree, she rocked some incredible red team buns to show her support for Oklahoma on ESPN’s College Game Day.

Old school 80s Vegas/Fran Fine chic
The Katy we love does the Fran Fine, ’80s Vegas chic thing so well it makes me think she was born in the wrong era.

Hat hair
We already mentioned ombre green was, of all her hair looks, Katy’s most enduring in 2014. I’m completely head-over-heels in love with how good the green looks with a peach colored hat.

Her stand out buns
Katy’s buns really stand out in a crowd. Not innuendo, actually taking about her hair .

This glow in the dark pony tail
I told you the “Prismatic” tour was good I MEAN LOOK IT HAD GLOW IN THE DARK HAIR I’D LIKE TO SEE BEYONCE TOP THAT.

"Slime green for Spring"
With black bangs and slime green ombre, Katy Perry does “kid” better than the kids do. I wish I was this down with the kids. My hair’s just plain dumb old brown.

Neon green on tour
For her tour, Katy had a neon green pigtail look for the “party” scenes, which was my favorite, especially when paired with this translucent pink party parka.

Festival hair
Katy Perry looked like that chic festival girl you always see around who manages to be doing the trendiest thing possible but not really looking twee or like an asshole doing it (the way you would if you tried). This leads me to believe that Katy should always have green hair forever.

Regular colored buns
I mean, if you’re going to hang with Minnie Mouse, you might has well match your hair to her ears, right?

Glamour bun
Katy’s most glamorous look of the year was on the Grammy’s red carpet where she wore an old Hollywood style up ‘do and reminded everyone that you can be the classiest woman at the party or you can have hot pink hair or tacky vintage makeup or you can go to Halloween as a Cheeto or whatever you want because you’re allowed to be anything and everything.

Throwback Cleopatra bob
Katy went throwback to “Waking Up in Vegas” with a cute Cleopatra style bob, which is still one of my favorite ever Katy hair looks.

THIS
Because it wouldn’t be a year in Katy without her Britney/Justin homage with Riff Raff at the VMAs. The long, black locks and bangs is another classic Katy style.

Piet Mondrian
For her “This is How We Do” video Katy worked those references of hers and went Piet Mondrian with this highly stylized square thing on her head.

Goth locks
In her “Dark Horse” phase Katy’s hair took the title literally and went totally goth, which I love on her.

Avant garde pony
Because when you’re Katy Perry, your pony can’t just be any old pony—it must have multiple levels, at least two different colors, and match your dress.

Bettie Page style
I am a massive sucker for Katy Perry with Bettie Page burlesque bangs, and I thank the good people over at V Magazine nearly every day for this cover shoot she did with Madonna.

Potential cultural appropriation buns
Things got a bit dicey for Katy around her “This is How We Do” video release as fingers began pointing about cultural appropriation. These buns are arguably appropriated from black culture, but we’re going to give her a pass because they’re also a throwback to ’90s club kids and 2013’s seapunk/Tumblr style…

100% cultural appropriation braids
…However, we can’t really excuse her braids, and the attitudes she takes in the video when she’s wearing them. Katy’s got a bit of a history of taking here and there from different cultures to suit her theatrics, and she’s not exactly apologetic about it either, which for a Katy fan, is more than a bit of a downer.

Prismatic rainbow
This hair has all the colors. MUCH COLOR. VERY KATY. SO PRETTY.

Tiny bangs
Not every grown woman can pull of baby pixie bangs, but Katy is one of the blessed few.

This incredible pink pony
I want a pink pony tail. Is this my favorite Katy hair look from 2014?
@katyperry / Instagram
Perfect head scarf
I have never in my entire life been able to accessorize with a head scarf. I think my head is the wrong shape. Katy does it perfectly in Australia on the red carpet at the ARIAS.

Late '90s club kid
Don’t pretend like you didn’t put crazy colored hair mascara and butterfly or flower clips in your hair at some point during 1999. DON’T YOU EVEN, I SEE YOU.

Purple princess
Not always subtle, Katy pulls off cute and coy with a hint of purple just as well as any of her ostentatious hair styles.
