Emmys 2013: The Best and Worst Dressed
There are many reasons to tune into the 2013 Emmy Awards — to (hopefully) see Breaking Bad take home Best Drama, to fall in love with host Neil Patrick Harris for the 489,574th time — but we all know the real reason to tune in: the fashion. Anna Gunn wowed in this incredible dress, but she was far from the only star to stun us, for better or for worse, with his/her fashion choices. Here are Bustle's picks for the best and worst dressed of the night.
BEST: Zooey Deschanel
The color of this J. Mendel dress had us seeing double - Deschanel wore a similarly tinted gown at last year's Emmys - but the design was refreshingly new on the star. It's not our favorite dress she's ever worn, but it's definitely on the list.
BEST: Tina Fey
30 Rock may be over, but as this beautiful Narcisco Rodriquez dress proves, the reign of Tina Fey, fashion queen, is just beginning.
WORST: Zosia Mamet
Oh, Shoshanna, we know you can do better than this mess of a dress, made by Honor. The crayon explosion on the bottom would've been bad enough, but the mustache across her boobs made matters much, much worse.
BEST: Justin Mikita and Jesse Tyler Ferguson
Once again, the newlyweds proved that they're one of the most adorable - and well dressed - couples in Hollywood. Their matching Tie the Knot bowties added a perfect final touch.
BEST: Kelly Osbourne
As one of the first on red carpet, Fashion Police host Kelly Osbourne set the bar high in this gorgeous, flattering Jenny Packham gown.
WORST: Kiernan Shipka
The 13-year-old Mad Men star is a Fashion Week regular and the envy of style star Suri Cruise, so seeing her in this flowery Delpozo creation is a major disappointment.
BEST: Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Seriously, does Julia Louis-Dreyfus ever age? The Veep actress wowed in this sequined Monique Lhuillier gown.
BEST: Kerry Washington
The best dressed star on planet Earth looked incredible as always tonight, wowing in this gorgeously detailed Marchesa gown.
BEST: Kaley Cuoco
The Big Bang Theory actress' beautiful Vera Wang gown might just be our favorite from the night.
BEST: Ariel Winter
Finally, the 15-year-old Modern Family star picked a dress that's a) appropriate for her age and b) flattering. We'll take this Lorena Sarbu dress over this one any day.
BEST: Anna Gunn
Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn deserves an Emmy just for this Romona Keveza dress. It's gorgeous, flattering, and unexpected - Skyler White, you have our attention.
WORST: Lena Dunham
Oh, Lena, what happened? This unflattering dress is far cry from the beautiful gown she wore to last year's Golden Globes.
WORST: Lena Headley
The top half of this dress isn't that bad, but the bottom - in which it looks like Game of Thrones star Headley is wearing a diaper - leaves us disappointed.
BEST: Morena Baccarin
The very pregnant Homeland star was beautiful in this dark red gown, and much happier than we've ever seen Jessica Brody look on TV.
BEST: Kristen Connolly
The House of Cards star will undoubtedly get mixed reviews for this long-sleeved look, but we put it firmly in our best of the night.
WORST: Heidi Klum
That choker-top cannot be comfortable. Heidi, save the weird outfits for Halloween.
BEST: Allison Janney
The Woman Forever Known as C.J. Cregg could've worn a burlap sack and still ended up on our best dressed list, but this gorgeous, simple gown was a nice touch.
BEST: Anna Faris
We're not huge fans of Faris' bangs, but we're all for this stunning Monique Lhuillier creation.
BEST: Claire Danes
THAT DRESS. THAT BOB. Claire Daines, you're simply the best.
BEST: Christina Hendricks
Hendricks rarely shies away from form-fitting gowns, and for good reason - she's one of the sexiest women alive. This dress isn't her best, but it's still impressive.
BEST/WORST: Mindy Kaling
We're undecided about this Georges Chakra number, which has a gorgeous color, but an odd, distracting neckline.
BEST: Kit Harrington
Jon Snow may know nothing, but it looks like Kit Harrington knows a thing or two about dressing up.
BEST: Sarah Silverman
Silverman typically doesn't go for subtlety, so it's refreshing to see her in such a simple, pretty dress - even if it is a bit casual for the occasion.
BEST: Elizabeth Moss
The Mad Men star's fashion choices are always surprising, and not always in a good way - she's had plenty of red-carpet mishaps over the years. This Dolce & Gabbana gown, though, is one of her all time best.
BEST/WORST: Alyson Hannigan
The top half of Hannigan's dress is great. The bottom, not so much. Still, it's a gorgeous color on the red-headed How I Met Your Mother star.
BEST: Allison Williams
Williams is the most consistently best-dressed Girls star, and tonight was no exception. This Ralph Lauren creation is simple and elegant.
WORST: Julianna Margulies
This dress is far from awful, but we expected much more from this Emmys veteran.
BEST: Rose Byrne
Per usual, Rose Byrne killed it on the red carpet, wearing an abs-baring gown that dared to be different.
WORST: Betsy Brandt
Well, at least it's not purple. The Breaking Bad star disappointed in a oddly-colored gown with an unflattering '90s neckline. The giant hairpoof certainly didn't help matters.
BEST: Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt
The long-together couple are red carpet pros, and they looked better than ever at the Emmys. Between the lovely color of Westfeldt's dress and the awesomeness of Hamm's beard, they might just be the best dressed couple of the night.
BEST: Carrie Underwood
It's a safe choice, but a good one: the purple color looks beautiful on presenter Underwood.
WORST: Julie Bowen
Julie Bowen, what is going on with the dress? Far too much, if you ask us.
BEST: Sofia Vergara
As if there was any doubt that Sofia Vergara was gorgeous, this dress made it very, very clear.
BEST: Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul
The men behind our favorite bromance in the world looked incredibly handsome on Sunday night. Bryan, it's nice to see you with hair. Aaron, it's nice to see you not tortured.
BEST/WORST: Connie Britton
We want to love Mrs. Coach's Naeem Khan dress, but we just can't. It's too carpet-y. Still, Britton looks gorgeous as always, and we can't fault her for trying.
BEST: Michelle Dockery
The Downton Abbey star stunned in this colorblock Prada dress, perhaps emulating Nicole Kidman's 2012 Oscars look?
