What Does Harry Styles Look For In a Girlfriend?

Well, you guys, it's official. Do you realize how long One Direction's Harry Styles has been single? Sure, he's been rumored to be attached to everyone from Taylor Swift (again) to a mysterious girl he was caught leaving a Coldplay concert with. And that's leaving out the rumors that Styles is bisexual, which caught fire in the wake of his apparently gender-neutral interests in romantic partners. Throughout all of this, it can be a little hard to keep on top of Styles' love life — let alone figure out where you could fit into it. Because, I mean, we all know the real reason you're reading this article. We all need to know what Styles looks for in a girlfriend so that we may one day become that lucky girl.

The thing is, Styles' taste in women is pretty open-ended. In case you didn't get this from the 1D singer dropping the bombshell that gender doesn't matter when it comes to romance, Styles tends to fall for people randomly rather than adhering to any particular "type." Which is great, because it means that anyone has a chance, but frustrating when you're trying to pin down exactly what it is about you that someone like Styles would think is magical. (The answer to that, by the way, is everything, as Styles seems to have the endearing ability to see the good in every single one of his fans.)

So do you have what it takes to be Styles' perfect girl? Well, here's some of the criteria he's thrown out over the years that probably haven't changed.

You Must Be Ambitious

In an interview from 2012, Styles revealed that he loves women who are driven. "I find ambition really attractive, too — if someone’s good at something they love doing. I want someone who is driven," he said. And that makes sense, because Styles himself is also very driven. One Direction is actually Styles' second band, after winning a Battle of the Bands competition with his first band White Eskimo, and he's the one who came up with the name of the band that everyone's talking about. Styles is a case study in having dreams and pursuing them relentlessly, so it makes sense he'd want someone who's passionate about something, too.

You Are Able to Laugh at Yourself

This is pretty much a given if you watch even five seconds of any interview that Styles has ever participated in, but he loves a good laugh. You shouldn't just have a good sense of humor — you also shouldn't take yourself too seriously. Styles spends most of his time laughing, either at himself, at one of his own bad jokes, or at something silly his friends said. Thus, it makes sense that the 1D star has repeatedly said he wants a girl with a good laugh.

You Must Be Open to New Experiences

Sorry, lazy couch potatoes like myself, but Styles loves hanging out with girls who have a thirst for adventure. You don't have to start going skydiving or anything like that, but remaining open to new experiences and trying new things will win you a lot of points with the boy-bander. Apparently doing nothing and wanting to sit around isn't very high on his list of fun date time activities. Tragic for me, really, as that's all I ever do.

You Must Be Nice

Once again, you only need to know the most casual of facts about Styles to know that he's one of the nicest guys in the world. This is the guy who helped organize a fan's proposal at a One Direction concert, for Pete's sake. Styles is practically an angel, as far as I'm concerned. Thus, it comes as no surprise that he's more into "good girls" than he is into "bad girls." I mean, he's very tight with his mother and sister, so of course he'd want a girl he could feel comfortable taking home to them.

You Must Like Him For Him

This is pretty much a requirement from any celebrity who is looking to date a fan, but you shouldn't be after Styles just because he's the Harry Styles from the One Direction. According to the singer, he can tell when girls only like him for what he has and, predictably, he's not into it. Make sure you get to know the boy behind the fame if you want anything with Styles to last beyond the first hello.

You Must Be Easy to Talk To

Again, this seems like a no-brainer, but Styles loves a girl that he can have a good conversation or banter with. That would explain that rumor that Styles wanted to start dating only British women, because only they can appreciate his dry and sarcastic sense of humor. (That rumor is completely untrue, by the way.) Being able to talk to the 1D singer for hours on end will not only endear you to him, but it's also just good practice for any relationship ever. Why hang out with someone you can't talk to?

You Must Be Yourself

That seems like a bizarre thing to put on a list of things Styles is looking for in a girlfriend, but at the end of the day, all Styles really wants is for girls to be themselves around him. In his own (possible) words, Swift wasn't his type, but he liked her anyway. You don't have to actively try, or change yourself, to get Styles to like you. Just do you, and good things might follow.
