Sin City has pretty much perfected the art of translating comic books into film from an artistic, cinematic standpoint; However, it looks like there's another film just on the horizon looking to give the franchise a run for its money. The new trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road has just been released, and not only does it look absolutely insane, but it also bears a lot of beautiful, comic book-inspired imagery that's, in a word, captivating.
Featuring a star-studded cast including Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult, the plot follows an action-packed storyline that was set up in the first three films of the franchise, which imagined the world in a future with limited resources, including water. Desperation fosters those left on the planet to take deadly measures to ensure survival, and things get real very, very quickly. In other words: Lots of explosions, lots of dust.
Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth film in the Mad Max franchise, after the original was released in 1979, and Mad Max 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome were released in 1981 and 1985, respectively. Fury Road comes from the same director as the first three, George Miller, but features none of the original cast — for instance, Mel Gibson was Max in the first three films, whereas now, Tom Hardy has taken on the role.
