Kate Sure Loves Her Coat Dresses
The Royal fashion watch continues. While making her rounds in New York City on Monday, Kate Middleton wore a coat dress to visit Harlem's Northside Center for Child Development. And it's a silhouette she must really love, because she seems to wear them a lot.
The Duchess' "Washington Coat" by Goat, a British designer, was a black, military style with a white lined collar and sleeve buttons that retails for around $1,000. It was obviously chic, and also a style that is extremely practical in inclement weather. If you live somewhere where winter actually means winter, then you can sympathize that three or four months out of the year, fashion becomes irrelevant. You can never see your outfits in public because they are always hidden by coats. So a coat dress is a perfect alternative, because it looks like a dress, but keeps you warm like a coat. Win-win!
And the expectant mother sure has quite the collection of the stylish winter piece. So let's take a look back at some of the Duchess of Cambridge's best coat dresses, and maybe get some inspiration for our winter shopping (or Christmas!) lists while we're at it.
1. Black Military
The Goat coat dress kept her cozy in NYC.
2. Emerald in Ireland
Kate wore an emerald green Emilia Wickstead coat for the Irish Guard parade.
3. Buttercup Yellow
Bright and beautiful, just like the Duchess.
4. Patterned
Middleton switched up her solids for this patterned Orla Kiely coat.
5. Tweed
The Duchess tried a tweed version while in Australia.
6. Tartan
The traditional print could not have been more fitting for Christmas day.
