Just in case you weren't already feeling slightly inadequate today, you should know that Grumpy Cat has already amassed a $100 million dollar empire, all without saying a word or lifting a paw. Oh, and the other kicker? Although it may seem now like there was never a time without Grumpy Cat, the internet's favorite feline is a mere two years old. What were you doing when you were two years old, huh? Making $100 million for successfully potty training and shoving two fingers up the same nostril at the same time? Yeah, I didn't think so.
For those of us who are unfamiliar with Grumpy Cat's lore and skyrocket to fame, the cat was born with a condition called "feline dwarfism", which caused her head to take on its unusually large shape. In September 2012, when Grumpy Cat was barely five months old, her owner's brother posted a picture of her to Reddit and the rest is internet history. People started captioning the viral image, and now, two years later, Grumpy Cat is a regular celebrity: She has guest-starred on television shows, has her own product line, and has a Lifetime movie based on her where she is voiced by Aubrey Plaza (aka, the American DREAM).
While it was reported earlier this year that Grumpy Cat (née Tardar Sauce) was making around $42,000 per year for her public appearances, that number has obviously gone WAY up since. Guess who Grumpy Cat has managed to out-earn in 2014?
1. Jennifer Lawrence
2. Oprah Winfrey
3. Justin Bieber
4. Kim Kardashian
5. You
But what we need to take from this is the true lesson that Grumpy Cat wanted us to learn all along: money doesn't buy happiness. And if you don't believe me, then just take a look at this face of this recent millionaire:
