We all had that friend who walked around with a Rubik's Cube in high school and was super proud about how fast they could solve it, and even though they were smug as smug gets, whenever they worked their magic, you were entranced all the same. You would have learned how to do it yourself except that let's be real: Beyond impressing people at parties, when does the life skill of being able to solve a Rubik's Cube really fast ever come in handy? Well, today we all got our asses handed to us by Steven Brundage, a magician who solved a Rubik's Cube to get out of a speeding ticket.
The magician who works events and parties, was driving home from a holiday party at 3AM, going 42 miles per hour in a 30 zone over the weekend when he was pulled over by the police. The officer asked him why he had so many cards in his car, at which point he confessed that they were for magic, and I'm assuming that that's when the Rubik's Cube shenanigans began. In this video, Brundage shows the cops not only how to solve the puzzle in twenty seconds, but then he mixes up all the squares and does it in one second. And just in case you thought it was sheer luck, he does it twice.
Like all parents whose offspring has a driver's license, mine kept me well-versed on what I should expect if I get pulled over by police. But despite all of their wisdom, they never once mentioned to me that learning how to solve a Rubik's Cube impressively fast might solve all of my speeding ticket problems. I guess Brundage just had one of those lucky moments in life, but just in case this is a secret hard-and-fast rule for getting out of speeding tickets, I'm going to start keeping an emergency Rubik's Cube in the glove compartment with my license and registration. And maybe try to glean some tips from this suspected wizard:
