While the cast of Gilmore Girls should consider themselves very lucky for being involved in what is easily one of the best TV series of all time, it comes with at least one downside. No matter what else they do, the show's giant fanbase will always see them as their Gilmore Girls characters. It's why keeping the Wincesters' names straight can be so difficult when watching Supernatural, and why my first reaction upon seeing Liza Weil on How to Get Away With Murder was, "Hey look! It's Paris Geller!" And besides reminding me to bing-watch Gilmore Girls yet again, Weil's role made me start wondering if How to Get Away With Murder and Gilmore Girls have anything in common besides the scene-stealing actress. It turns out, they do.
Of course, they also have many, many differences. For example, I don't remember there being a whole lot of murder on Gilmore Girls (except for the many men whose hearts Lorelai ripped out, of course). Still, after showcasing Lorelai and Rory's lives for seven years, and the Keating Five's struggle to solve and cover-up murders for nine episodes, Gilmore Girls and HTGAWM have crossed paths a few times. And where the shows differ, they actually sort of mirror each other. Here's how the two series compare, as told by a Venn diagram.
One more thing HTGAWM and Gilmore Girls have in common? They've both turned their viewers into lifelong fans.
