ABC Family is known for its teen dramas, including one featuring four gorgeous young actresses who are being tortured by some mysterious person who gets off on wrecking their lives. Yep, I'm talking about Pretty Little Liars. Make fun of it all you want, but this is one badass show blowing up the small screen. Pretty Little Liars fans can't get enough of Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), and Hanna (Ashley Benson). These four friends have transformed TV for the better, and frankly, I'll be extremely sad when it ends.
You know who else will be depressed? The millions of other fans who watch the show religiously. Seriously, PLL has a massive fan base. Not only do fans take over social media, especially Twitter to live tweet the show, but they are not to be messed with. Have something nasty to say about the show? Walk the other way, stat. Want to make fun of the characters, relationships, and story lines? That's a big no-no! These fans are so passionate that I have a feeling they'd take on the identity of "A" to stop anyone and everyone from dissing their show. If you're frightened by just that, then here are eight things you should never (and I mean never) say to a die-hard PLL fan (myself included).
"Isn't it just a silly teen show focusing on pretty girls and hot guys?"
No, it's not. It's so much more than that. Admittedly, yes, the entire cast is absolutely gorgeous, but each character is more than just a pretty face. They have so many layers and faults and realness making them extremely relatable. These are just a few of the many reasons we fans watch.
"No one dresses like that in high school."
Duh. Have you seen how everyone dresses on TV? No one dresses that nicely and stylishly in real life. That's why it's called a TV SHOW. Plus, Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily have to have their own fashion sense, because it aids in the telling of their story. As the show's evolved, each Liars' style has changed showing how have they grown and changed as individuals.
"The books are so much better."
Books are usually better. However, in this case, I can't really attest to that, because I never read the Pretty Little Liars books. But, the series is obviously doing fine, seeing as there will be at least seven seasons. Yeah, creator I. Marlene King knows exactly what she's doing.
"Isn't it kind of creepy that these older guys like girls in high school?"
Honestly, this is something I ask myself every time I sit down for an episode. If this were real life, it'd be super creepy and parents probably wouldn't stand for a doctor, a detective, or a teacher going after their high school daughter. However, it's fiction, and there is true love involved. Take Ezria (Aria and Ezra). These two are meant to be and their sweet (yet complicated, messy) relationship gets rid of that creep factor.
"This show is so unbelievable."
Hey, it's fiction, and not a true story. Plus, the madness and sometimes ridiculousness of the deaths, mystery, and "A" makes it that much more fun to watch. Isn't that why we all watch TV? To escape the normalcy of real life? PLL make for the perfect escape from the real world.
"When are they going to just tell the police everything?!"
First, that's not the point of the show. Second, let's hope never, because I have a feeling there wouldn't be a show if that happened. The series is about these girls hiding secrets and defending themselves. Let's be honest, no one can be trusted in Rosewood — not even the police!
"Scream's ghost face mask is so much better than that black hoodie."
The black hoodie is genius. Who would have thought that such a simple garment could be turned into something we all fear? Seriously, whoever came up with that idea needs to win an award. With that said, don't ever bash the black hoodie.
"Who is 'A'?"
We don't know, so stop asking! Thankfully, before the beginning of Season 7 we will officially find out the identity of Big "A"!
