It looks like we might have a new celebrity mom on our hands. Swirling in Tuesday's rumor mill is the report that actress Rosario Dawson adopted a 12-year-old girl. The news was first reported by Page Six, but E! News has spoken with a Dawson insider who seemingly confirmed the adoption news. Per the source, in October, she indeed welcomed a young girl into her life and is "over the moon." The insider also added, "She has always wanted this."
If true, the adoption should come as no surprise, seeing as the Daredevil actress has been very open about wanting to adopt and being adopted herself by her father. In a 2008 interview with Latina magazine, Dawson revealed,
I always wanted to adopt kids 'cause my Dad adopted me. That idea has stayed in the back of my head, but lately, I've been thinking about it more. My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they're getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going "Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could've known her." That makes me sad 'cause it would be a waste to not have these people know each other. Whatever time I have, I want it.
Dawson also opened up about her adoption and one day becoming a mother in a 2012 interview with The Guardian. She admires her father for marrying a woman who was eight months pregnant with someone else's child. "I think about that now," she said, "such a young man, marrying a woman with a baby who's not his — that just doesn't happen. He just loved my mom, and he loved me, and I loved my dad, you know?"
Despite her biological father not being around, that didn't influence her hopes of becoming a parent. Being adopted really changed her views on parenthood, and she revealed one day she'd like to become a mother. The interview alludes to Dawson wanting "an older child, who's otherwise unlikely to find a home."
Well, it sure doesn't seem like Dawson is wasting anymore time. Dawson has yet to officially confirm the adoption rumors, but, if true, I have no doubt she'll be a fantastic mom. The love she has for her family is astounding, and I'm sure she'll show the same adoration for her own children.
