Does any celebrity truly like the paparazzi following them around and invading their personal space? Probably not. Take George Clooney, for example, who is not a fan of the photogs. I have a feeling Clooney also doesn't like everyone chatting about his marriage to new wife Amal Alamuddin. Well, Christian Bale has a few words for Clooney (aka his fellow Batman) regarding his stance against the paparazzi: "Just shut up." Whoa. Them's fighting words, Bale.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, the Exodus: Gods and Kings star said Clooney needs to man up and stop whining over the price that comes with fame:
I know, but it’s boring, isn’t it? You know what I mean? It doesn’t matter that he talks about it. It’s like, come on, guys, just shut up. Just get on with it and live your lives and stop whining about it. I prefer not to whine about it.
Despite Bale not complaining about the invasion of privacy, he did say, "I feel I should have as much privacy as anyone else." For example, when he and his wife, Sibi Blazic, were in Italy, he encountered a man standing outside of his hotel saying "the most obscene things imaginable to [his] wife." Even though Bale's known for being somewhat hot-headed, he said,
Now, that happened a number of times. I know what he’s after; he has a strategy there. Am I able to say I’m not gonna give him that satisfaction of angry Christian Bale coming after this man? But equally, he’s killing my humanity and my dignity as a husband if I do not, and he knows this. So you’ve got a choice.
Bale's patience is sometimes tested, but he realizes he has a choice: he can either take the high road and not worry about it or he can react and give the paparazzi exactly what they want.
Because that’s the most vulnerable thing, isn’t it? I don’t really give a s— what he says about me. So what happens? One day I walk out and I see him. I go after him, and he gets all these shots of me coming after him. Bingo, he’s hit gold. He gets exactly what he wants, smiles and walks off. I feel like an ass 'cause I’ve given him what he wanted. But in my mind, I had no other choice. How could I sit back and accept somebody talking that way to my wife? I couldn’t. I just couldn’t do it.
Even though he's blasting Clooney for complaining about the paparazzi, Bale seems to feel the same way about photogs and personal privacy. He'd just rather deal with it head-on or ignore it, rather than "whine" about it to others and the media.
