'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Has a Huge Surprise

by Kadeen Griffiths

If you're a Game of Thrones fan, then the only torture greater than trying to avoid spoilers from upcoming episodes or seasons is waiting with impatient frustration for the next season to arrive. Even if you've been keeping on top of the Game of Thrones Season 5 spoilers, you're probably still marking off the endless days on your calendar until you can get back to the world of Westeros and see who is going to drop dead at a wedding next. Luckily, the creators of the show heard your plea, even if they're not quite ready to deliver that full trailer. On Tuesday, the Game of Thrones Twitter revealed a Season 5 website for a mysterious purpose that has yet to be unveiled. However, it came along with a ten second teaser for the new season, so at least you don't walk away completely empty handed.

The teaser is mainly made up of clips from previous seasons, combined with a voiceover of Melisandre saying, "I see a darkness in you." Considering it opens with an image of Arya shrouded in darkness, the teaser encourages all kinds of theories, spoilers, and speculation about the young Stark. However, and perhaps more importantly, the teaser is also an introduction to a website called Three Eyed Raven, which promises to allow fans to "receive visions of the future" via Twitter direct messages or via text messaging.

What does it all mean? That's anyone's guess. The Hollywood Reporter theorizes that fans who sign up will get flashes of the Season 5 trailer in advance of the official release, but that seems a little too anticlimactic to go to all the trouble of setting up a website to direct message fans for. Maybe instead of revealing portions of a two minute trailer, the Three Eyed Raven will give adoring fans clips from all throughout Season 5 instead. Maybe we'll get behind-the-scenes videos, exclusive interviews with the cast, and George R. R. Martin himself teasing future events from the Song of Ice and Fire book he's still writing — all just for signing up for the site. (Or maybe this is just an elaborate way to let us known that Bran will be in Season 5 after all?)

At this point, we really have no idea what Game of Thrones has planned, but there can be no doubt that it will be soul-crushing, mind-bending, and worth every single second. Check out the teaser and the website below.
