After weeks of tough competition Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson won Dancing With the Stars and were awarded the coveted mirrorball trophy. There was no doubt that all three finalists deserved to win. They even all scored perfect 10s across the board during the finale on Tuesday. But nobody wanted to win more than Ribeiro did. The actor had wanted to participate in the competition since its very first year "After 10 years of waiting I want it to be me," he said at the top of the show.
It was tough to watch Sadie Robertson and Janel Parrish go home without the win. They were both talented dancers, and they came very far in the competition. But tonight the best dancer in the room won, and that was Alfonso Ribeiro. It's fitting that the man who invented his own style of dance, The Carlton, is now the winner of a dancing show. Even though he suffered a myriad of injuries throughout the season, he never gave up. Each night he gave the performance his all and the judges couldn't get enough of him.
"There's a naturalness about your dancing," judge Len Goodman said after the pair's final number. The couple only had 24 hours to rehearse but they hit the floor looking like they'd been practicing for weeks. "You're a legend, man," Bruno Tonioli gushed.
All three finalists were incredibly talented, but Ribeiro deserved the victory. And naturally he was so humble about his win. "I cannot believe this," he said, tears streaming down his face after the announcement. "I've wanted it forever." His partner couldn't agree more with the judges' decision saying, "He deserves this so much. He's one of the most hardworking people I've ever met."
And now all that hard work has finally paid off. Say hello to your new DWTS champions Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson! I know they'll do the title justice.
